It's difficult to think of a scripture more aptly applied to the babblings of modern science, particularly in the so-called science of evolution.
The truth has been committed to our trust by God through his Word, with instructions to guard and preserve it. That truth includes the origins of earth, which is God's creation. Not only does Paul instruct us to preserve the truth, but to avoid error which masquerades as knowledge, in the form of so called "science."
Because the church has not taken this seriously it has allowed godless humanism to cause a loss of faith in many professing Christians who fall for the "profane and vain babblings" of what passes for science. Not only has the church failed in this, but theologians have led the way. They have rushed to accept this false idea, while at the same time trying to hold on to biblical authority through the charade of an application of various 'gap' theories to bind these two diametrically opposed belief systems. The result is that today the majority of evangelical seminaries are teaching false doctrine to their students.
Meanwhile, there are many non-Christian scientists who do not believe in evolution, particularly since the discovery of the complexities of DNA, which makes evolution statistically ridiculous. The only reason they keep silence is due to the intimidation and punishment leveled at those who fail to fall in line with evolution.
How long has it been since you have been in a church which told the truth to the children and youth in Sunday School? Are the leaders, as a matter of fact, knowledgeable enough in this area to defend the faith? I'm afraid the answer is "No" in the vast majority of cases.
"...the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them." 2 Cor. 4:4. The enemy, Satan, actively seeks to blind people to the truth. This is part of the spiritual warfare.
We have a Christian duty to be informed on this subject so that we are able to teach others, especially the young. The truth is firmly on our side, and there is plenty of information available. A belief in creation by God is foundational to the faith.
