[Note: Thanks to all who
graciously supported our road trips to Notre Dame and Washington D.C. Our
efforts were glorifying to our Lord. I hope to get a note of thanks to all, but
until I do, please know we are grateful. (I apologize for anyone who had trouble
donating on our web site, we have taken care of the problem and it is now
working fine. Thanks for believing in us.]
“Then they
will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all
nations for My name’s sake. And then many will be offended, will betray one
another, and will hate one another. Then many false prophets will rise up and
deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of
many will grow cold.” Matt. 24:9-12
“Law
without punishment is not really law.” Spoken to me by Dr. Alan Keyes
5-14-09
Have you seen
the video that I filmed of Father Norman Weslin’s arrest on May 15, 2009 on the
campus of the University of Notre Dame? Please….please take eight minutes and view it here. You will never forget what you see.
The battle between the two seeds has been raised to a new level in
America. The clash of the kingdoms is playing out before our very eyes. The time
has now come when we must all pick a side…to “choose this day whom you will serve.” The words of Jesus are
as chilling as they were prophetic when He spoke to us 2000 years ago regarding
the spiritual condition of modern-day America…
"Think not
that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.
For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter
against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.
And a man's foes shall be they of his own
household."
Perhaps you
still don’t get the picture. Father John Jenkins, a Catholic priest and the
president of the University of Notre Dame, turned to the civil authorities to
arrest a fellow Catholic priest for standing up for Catholic values, on a
Catholic university, where Catholic values are purported to have once been the
central focus of that Catholic university’s teachings.
But this is
not just going on at Notre Dame. I bet you never heard that Focus on the Family
had eight Christians arrested, including their pastor, (Bob Enyart is a friend of mine) for
questioning Dr. Dobson regarding his flip-flop on support for John McCain. These
gentle Christians now face 90 days in jail and a $500 fine for questioning the
actions of a fellow believer, which Scripture plainly teaches we should do.
As I warned
you a few weeks ago, not all gospels are THE
Gospel. But this isn’t even about the in-fighting among denominations as to
who’s right and who’s wrong on doctrinal issues, or the fundamentals of
salvation. Notre Dame exposed what we have suspected for years. The devil is
alive and well within the Church and he comes cloaked in the garments of
“religion.”
Jesus warned
us of that as well.
“This
people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. Howbeit in
vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. For
laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the
washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do. And he said
unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own
tradition.” Mark 7.
Let me stop
you right there because your pride is showing. This is not about Catholicism, so
save your emails. It is about the worship of doctrine, theology, and tradition.
The evangelical and mainline churches are full of lost folks who love keeping
the traditions of their “religion” and our arrogantly trusting in “their own
goodness,” without turning from sin.
Religion is
“the dead faith of those now living.” Christianity is “the living faith of those
now dead.” No wonder so many people are turned off by us “religious folk.” We
practice our religion rather than living out our faith.
Say what you
will about the events at Notre Dame. At least Father Weslin lived out what he
believed. Faith produces works like fire produces smoke. That is how you
recognize it. By their fruit (Deeds) you shall know them. Does the
leadership of the Catholic Church believe the law they teach the people or are
they vainly worshiping the doctrines of men?
America is
sick. It has become infected with “leadership” that is rotten. A fish rots from
the head downward. Whatever flows through the head, flows throughout the body
and the whole nation is sick.
American
Christianity, too, has become lawless. The evidence is the law-breaking openly
celebrated in our government. This could never have happened under the watchful
eye of a righteous Church. But the Church has become lawless… wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and
naked…honoring evil and punishing good.
“But we
know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully; Knowing this, that the law
is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the
ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and
murderers of mothers, for manslayers…” I Timothy 1:4-12
The law was
made for the evil; it is not necessary for the righteous. The law is a school master that drives one to repentance. Without the law there is no sin.
But this is
where we have sprung the leak. Because law is no longer part of the Church’s
vocabulary, sin has gone the way of fear and trembling. It is now clear that the battle for the
America lies inside the church.
America is
lawless because the church is lawless. In this “age of Grace” we have become
convinced that one can sin without consequences. The American Church has
preached grace in the place of remorse, offered compassion instead of
discipline, and spread tolerance to cover shame. Mercy follows judgment. We are no longer taught to hate
sin.
My own father
used to admonish his kids after we found ourselves in a jam of our own creation.
"Well, you've made your own bed, now sleep in it." We have no one to
blame but ourselves.
Which brings me back to the Alan Keyes’ statement that “Law without punishment is not really law.”
Would America be in the mess we are in if we had continued to exercise discipline within the Church? Is it possible that the lawlessness in the nation is the direct result of sin in the pews? Would the leadership of America be more righteous if the pulpit demanded Biblical obedience from their flocks?

Would
President Obama have dared to venture to Notre Dame if the Catholic Church had
dealt with its own sin? Was anyone every punished for the homosexual abuse of
the Catholic Church? (Law without punishment is not really law.) Have
pro-aborts Pelosi, Kerry, Kennedy, Biden, et al paid any price at all for the
disobedience to the teachings of the Church? Is the rank and file Catholic
fearful of disobeying the Lord?
Lawlessness is
abounding in the Church. From divorce to homosexuality, dishonest business
dealings to debt, Sunday morning soccer to out of control children, money-hungry
pastors to power hoarding church boards; sin is causing “the love of many to wax
cold.”Much of
American Christianity is apostate. To many, church attendance is not much
different than membership in your local VFW. It is a gathering place, a social
circle into which one is born; a special club with special rituals…where
membership has its privileges.
There is a
separating occurring in the Church. It is happening before our very eyes. Our
churches are full of evil spirits in high places and many of them are wearing funny
collars. Father Weslin and Father Jenkins are examples of the sheep and the
goats. I’ll let you decide which is which.
There is a
shaking coming. Religion can’t save you, your church can’t save you, your pastor
can’t save you, and your works cannot save you.
For the
time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin
at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? I Peter 4:17
It’s time to
clean up the house.
