"Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love: in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory,"
1 Peter 1:7-8
How can you love someone you've never laid eyes on? Jesus, for instance.
How can you have unshakable belief in this Person to the point that you commit every part of your being to Him? And how can it bring you great rejoicing even in the middle of great adversities?
And, yet, this is the reality. I ponder it often because it seems impossible. It's part and parcel of that great miracle accomplished at the cross, the cosmic ramifications of which we can barely touch the surface.
JOY ... in the place of sorrow. PEACE ... in the midst of pain. CONVERSATION IN HEAVEN ... while physically on earth.
The joy and peace never go away. "As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing: as poor, yet making many rich: as having nothing, yet possessing all things" (2 Corinthians 6:10). And "I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation" (2 Corinthians 7:4).
"Though one fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand" (Psalm 37:24).
"He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved." Psalm 55:22
