The Fool, According to Scripture

Avoid being a fool ... or putting up with one. This is an age of fools.

Proverbs 10:21
The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.

Proverbs 10:23
It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

Proverbs 11:29
He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.

Proverbs 12:15
The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.

Proverbs 13:16
Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.

Proverbs 13:19
The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

Proverbs 14:7
Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not in him the lips of knowledge.

Proverbs 14:33
Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but that which is in the midst of fools is made known.

Proverbs 17:10
A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.

Proverbs 17:28
Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

Proverbs 23:9
Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.

Proverbs 26:4
Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.

Proverbs 26:7
The legs of the lame are not equal: so is a parable in the mouth of fools.

Proverbs 29:11
A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.

Proverbs 29:20
Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

Ecclesiastes 7:5
It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.

Ecclesiastes 7:9
Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.

Ecclesiastes 9:17
The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.

2 Timothy 2:23
But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.

1 Peter 2:15
For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:

Silencing Fools

"For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men." 1 Peter 2:15

This is an era of foolish men, and women (and children). It is an era in which people build themselves up in their own eyes and even aspire to become gods. (Fat chance.)

It is a day of dark mindedness, of selfishness, of arrogance. People have high opinions of themselves. It is a day of foolishness.

Foolishness is in political correctness, in the schools, in the churches, in the world of finance, in 'so-called science' (which the Bible calls it), certainly in government, in relationships, in understanding, and in wisdom.

"Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools." Romans 1:22

"The Lord shall have them in derision." Psalm 2:4

Up is down, right is wrong, good is evil, black is white. If you are care about the world's opinion to any degree, you will keep your mouth shut about almost everything, because if you speak truth you will be attacked and persecuted - by fools. It is a pointless exercise to 'cast your pearls before the swine.' In other words, don't waste your time arguing with foolishness. Their eyes are blind and they cannot see. Save your pearls for those whose eyes are open, who want to know truth.

Christ is our example. When he was reviled, he "reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously" 1 Peter 2:23.

If you suffer persecution, take it without rancor, but silently and patiently, for "this is acceptable with God" (1 Peter 2:20).

You will be vindicated in time. God will have the last word.

God Calls Them Fools

"The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God." Psalm 53:1

This applies to the so-called intellectual in today's world. They are the ones who decide they can explain things without God. They are the college professors, the scientists, the philosophers, and all who see themselves as wise. They should enjoy this deceptive self-image while they can, because they will soon be faced with the truth that they are fools. There will be no escape.

"Thus saith the Lord God; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing!" Ezekiel 13:3

Even theologians, ministers and pious lay people are fools if they follow their own 'wisdom' instead of God's Word. Their 'wisdom' is even a sham ... self-deception. Wisdom cannot be had without the Lord:

"The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever." Psalm 111:9

Jesus even rebuked those he loved because of their lack of understanding the prophecies and why he went to the cross. "Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?" Luke 24.

Each of us can choose to be either a fool or one of the wise. It's clear-cut.
