Just take a good look in the mirror and you will see the
problem with America. It is not Obama, Bush, the “progressives,” or the
government that is messing up this country.
It is us. It is the un-holy trinity of Me, Myself, and I
that is responsible for America’s demise.
With all deference to Flip Wilson, it is not the Devil
who made us do it. We give him waaay to much credit…the Devil that is. Most of
the mess we find ourselves in is self-imposed. We did it to ourselves, or as I
often tell our football players, we are our own worst enemy.
Heck, truth be told, most of us don’t need the Devil to
mess us up. We do a good enough job of that ourselves. We love to give him the credit,
but unfortunately we are ultimately the one’s responsible for our behavior. The
Apostle Paul told us:
“But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that
they do gender strifes. And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be
gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that
oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the
acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the
snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.”
We oppose ourselves…what a unique perspective. The mess
we are in is a mess that we caused.
American’s love to blame somebody else for our failures;
“Kill the ump,” “Throw the bums out,” “The refs cheated,” “I wasn’t born with a
silver spoon in my mouth,” “My parents neglected me,” “I was abused as a
child,” “I refused to sleep my way to the top,” It is those darn democrats.”
Stop blaming the boogey man. Man up and take
responsibility for your own actions. Our irresponsibility got us into this mess
and only our personal responsibility can get us out of it.
Yep. We have been our own worst enemy.
We love to blame the “culture” for the sinful behavior of
our citizens when we were the ones who permitted morality to be removed from
the education of our children. We are the one’s who permitted our tax dollars
to be spent destroying everything upon which this nation was founded.
We are the one’s who sat silently in the pews while the
Word of God was replaced by the seeker-sensitive, who-are-you-to-judge false
gospel emanating from the pulpit. It wasn’t the Devil who was preaching the
doctrine of demons, it was your pastor. He is still doing it today as you
dutifully sit on your butt and permit the “man of God” to take a hands-off
approach to the deviant-cation of society.
We are the one’s who believed that we could immerse our
children into seven-hours-a-day training in the religion of Secular Humanism in
“public” schools while being foolish enough to believe that a twenty-something
“youth leader” was capable of undoing the garbage we had permitted to be dumped
into the skulls of the next generation of leaders.
We are the one’s who were so worried about the
“socialization” of our children that we ignored the exhortation to “train-up a
child in the way he should go” and were shocked when they chose to go a
different direction.
It wasn’t the Devil. It was you and me. We are the ones
who have permitted our children to be stolen from us.
We are the one’s who sat silently as the President of the
United States popularized “oral-sex” thereby granting permission to every
teenager in America to engage in the behavior because it was “not really sex.”
We re-elected him. He lied under oath and we permitted him to remain in office.
We agreed with James Carville that it was “the economy, stupid.” We sowed to
the wind and we have reaped the whirlwind. It is the morality, stupid.
We are the ones who bought into the lie that America
would be better if we voted into the office the “lesser of two evils.” How is
that working out for you today? We are the ones who swapped Christian values
for ‘conservative” values as if conservatism was a religion unto itself on par
with Christianity.
We are the one’s walking down the same path today as the
political system gives us a choice between a Muslim and a Mormon. According to
the Pew Center, Less than 2% of Americans are Jewish, and less than 1% are
Muslim. None of those “great religions of the world” believe in the Lordship of
Jesus Christ. We, the citizens of a nation where nearly 80% of Americans
self-identify as Christians, have permitted “strange-Gods” to reign over us.
We are the ones who have permitted our pulpits to teach
the lie that “all religions are the same.” We are the ones who have permitted
our pulpits to teach that Christians and Muslims serve the same God. We are the
ones who are responsible for permitting fellow Christians to be separated and
categorized by skin colors…as if a black Christian and a white Christian have a
different set of moral beliefs. Did you know that most Mormon-converts are
former members of other Christian denominations?
We are the ones who permitted Supreme Court opinions to
be passed off as law. We are the ones who have permitted over 50 million babies
to be aborted in the womb because we acquiesced to the “opinion” of black-robed
renegades. We are the ones who permitted the courts to declare that there was a
right to homosexual-sodomy and that sodomy-based marriage was actually a civil
right. The law never changed…only the courts’ opinion did. It happened on our
watch.
We are the ones who accepted the court opinion that
no-fault divorce was a good thing. We are the ones who participated in putting
asunder what God had joined together. We are the ones who watched our children
fall into rebellion because of the infidelity of the parents to the vows they
voluntarily, before God, recited. We are the ones who permitted these troubled
young children to be drugged in government schools in order to “calm them
down.”
Take a good look in the mirror. The Devil is laughing. He
has spent the last few decades on vacation. He didn’t have to oppose us because
most of us were doing a fine job of that all by ourselves.
We are the ones who permitted the banishment of God into
the utility closet. We are the ones who permitted the death on the cross to be
modified from a live-changing venture to a life-enhancing add-on. We are the
ones who cheapened the resurrection into grace with our guilt, redemption
without repentance, and accepted Him as Savior apart from Lordship.
We are the ones who promoted the killing of innocents
around the world in a continuous attempt to bring “liberty” by force, democracy
without Christianity, and peace apart from the Prince of Peace. We are the ones
who have followed the commandment to “love thy neighbor as they self’ by use of
the bunker-busting bomb.
We are the ones who have not lived out the “religion” we
profess while screaming about the loss of religious freedoms. We are the ones
who have permitted children to be a choice, sodomy to be a life-style, politicians
to be dishonest, and morality and state to be separated.
We are the ones who complain about the “government” yet
turn to the government for the latest congressional handout. We are the ones
who look at pornography and then lock-up at the porn-viewer who gets caught. We
are the ones who permit porn to be a declared free-speech and watch helplessly
while the mention of Christmas is removed form our government schools.
We are the ones who max out our credit cards and then
lament government debt. We are the ones who complain about politicians and then
re-elect our representative. We are the ones who complain about fatherless
children and then send our children into the government schools to be trained
by women.
Christians have been voting for pro-death, anti-religious
candidates for years. Fifty-four percent of Catholics voted for Obama in 2008.
Nearly half of evangelicals did as well. This is the party of the ACLU the most
anti-Christian organization in America. This is the party of Ruth Bader
Ginsberg and Nancy Pelosi. Now we complain about the loss of our “religious
freedoms.” Black Christians voted 90% for the most pro-abortion President in
American history just because he was black.
We are the ones who permitted the teaching of self-esteem
without the need for self-respect. We are the ones who gave trophies for
participating, took the score off of the scoreboard, and punished the
champions. We are the ones who permitted accomplishment to be called greed.
As some wise man once stated, “We have met the enemy and
it is us.”
Changing the White House may bring temporary relief, but
nothing is going to change until we change our house. Judgment begins in the
house of God. Me, Myself, and I have been found guilty of sloth.
