Don't Imagine

But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear,
but walked in the counsels
and in the imagination of their evil heart,
and went backward, and not forward.
Jeremiah 7:24

Remember John Lennon's song, Imagine? This has truly become the byword of this generation - this age. I have great compassion for John Lennon. His life, while he was as famous as one can be in this world, was a perfect example of the grand search for meaning. A truly tragic figure, I don't believe he ever found what he was looking for. Look at the words of the song:

Imagine
by John Lennon

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
I am filled with sorrow when I read his words...words that are idolized by this
generation. Imagine ... no heaven, no hell, no death, no religion, true peace, no worldly possessions, no greed, no hunger, selflessness, unity.

The irony and tragedy of what John was looking for is this. He could have found it. What he was searching for was true inner peace, true inner joy, spiritual meaning, fulfillment, eternal life. That is the life available only in and through the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ. I wonder if anyone ever told him about the good news of the gospel.

This entire generation - the entire world - is looking for the same thing, but looking in all the wrong places and listening to all the wrong voices. The voice of the great pretender, Satan - the great deceiver - is loud and clear these days, asking people to imagine the same things. The true Christians are the only ones who have the answer. Are you telling people about the good news?

"... for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the IMAGINATIONS of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever." I Chronicles 28:9.

Don't waste time with foolish imaginations. The real thing is available.
