The Event: Planet-X, War ON America, The Rapture?

Too much is happening too fast. I always try to post only the best; I know everyone is very busy. If you just landed here on my blog, it would be very helpful to you to scan through my July posts (left side of page, scroll down) on Planet-X to get a background. I have been researching this for two years or so, the most challenging subject matter I've ever researched. It's real and it's coming.

There are many pictures of Nibiru/Planet-X. Here is one from CFH Observatory in Hawaii, taken in July. It's 2 minutes, 51 seconds.  You can go directly to 2:00 before it is seen. HERE

Planet-X/Nibiru is far more than we have been told. It is an entire solar system with its own planets. It has come through our solar system periodically, is believed by many to have caused the great Flood of Noah, perhaps the parting of the Red Sea, and certainly goes much further back than those events.

The ancient Sumerians have written about it, and it's written of in The Kolbrin. Velikovsky wrote about it in Worlds in Collision. And I believe it is referred to numerous times in The Holy Bible. You may have noticed that God uses His own creation, weather and such to accomplish 90% of His judgments on Earth. He is now preparing for the end times, the beginning of His wrath on earth as judgments on those who refuse His Son, Jesus Christ.  We are about to enter the great 7-year period of the Great Tribulation on earth. I believe He  will once again use PX to initiate the Tribulation - and perhaps again at the end of the 7 years.

Somehow we Christians in the West seem to separate the Bible - the spiritual - from the 'real world.' And we have it exactly backward. The real world is the spiritual. Every single thing we do throughout life is spiritual. WE are spirit beings.  Well, now before I get off into 'preaching' let's just go into the discoveries of the past week.

John Moore is the best resource we have right now, and he is on the radio every week day. Pray for His protection. Going public is good protection, but not perfect. I posted some information from him on one or two of the July blogs. I consider him the first real current breakthrough as far as PX intel is concerned - and a lot more things coming.  He has several long-time sources of military intelligence, and more are popping up every day as the "regular people" in our military and elsewhere are beginning to see amazing and unbelievable things going on. And they are talking.

On this blog I am going to post his videos from the past week or so. Knowing that few have time to view all of this, I have loosely transcribed all of these (hours of work!), so you can get a brief overview of what is in each video. Sun Activity: DHS is afraid of a “Carrington Event” …last one in 1859 … solar X-flash flare. No power grid then, but the telegraph cables acted as antennae and set fires in the telegraph offices. In 2012 it would hit half the planet and would take out the power.  The power plants are not in as much danger as the power grid. The transformers.

Nibiru/PX: Winds will be coming from West to East (jet stream). Dome-type structures are the most wind resistant. Refineries seem to be burning all over the world (explosions? Why? May be an effort to reduce the supply. Pretend we have a gas shortage…charge more…crooks make more.)

1841-42 had to use boats to get around Sacto, had 41 straight days of rain. Atmospheric River (AR), 6 of them in the last 1800 yrs. California preparing for another one. USGS: says Sacto needs to prepare for this. California coast is already sinking slowly. She believes it’s from the oil drilling (sideways), especially around San Diego. The other problem is we have a methane (natural gas) column about 20 stories high, again off San Diego. Some of that oil drilling may be tapping into that column for the $$$. If the pressure gets higher in the methane it’s highly flammable and when you see flames that’s the top of the methane column releasing the gas. It has ignited and wiped out populations. If it doesn’t burn it rises and contaminates the atmosphere.  Up to 200 mph (PA), comes in like a monsoon. If it continues past California it could even impact the Midwest.

45 days of rain is bad because we have no retention bases here and it will flow into the rivers, which flood, cause erosion, landslides, MUD,  wipe out levees. Widespread effect. China has been having the same problems. So if you hear about a PA coming, pay attn. to what’s going on around you.

Caller: FEMA flood maps are no longer available online, it appears. It’s not even showing the old flood maps. They say they are being updated. But all other areas are available (except California). (end)

VIRUSES. H5N1 is 50% fatal in humans, 100% in chickens.  Other birds less so. They contaminate the waterways and are not a good place to go swimming. We are in a new world now. It’s endemic in Indonesia and Egypt. And they no longer report numbers of cases or deaths.

Two 4.5’s in Yorba Linda .. a ‘doublet’. Practically at the same time. They increase chances of a major EQ. There are now 225 EQ/wk in California (since April) and increasing. Nibiru causing … or other factors? SA Fault continues down thru Mexico (under another name).

Geo-engineering is being done on the sly (weather manipulation; chemtrails). All world powers are doing it. Some of the extreme hot and cold is a result of this.

Rumor that we have moles who will rescue the US from what's coming (treasonous coup). John hopes so, but has no confirmation. 1930s there was a coup attempting to overthrow FDR but it didn’t happen. He doubts it will happen.

Military construction worker at 29 Palms 2000’ above sea levcl. Making gas turbines for electricity to be done by 11/1. Also digging new wells, new sewage plants and houses for Marine’s dependents. Not just 29 Palms. All bases on both coasts getting these gas turbine generators, 11/1 finish date on all. Confirmation 2 sources.

Russians: 65,000 in Canada ready to come across the US border right now.  On 4/16 – 9/28. 25000 are Spetsnza special forces, fully armed, Their Mission Statement inside US: ”will destroy whatever the flyby doesn’t destroy.”

The flyby is referring to the passage of Niburu/PX. This troop movement of the Russians w/the turbine generators, being readied for completion on 11/1. He’s personally looking at the 2^nd week in November as crunch time. He’s been tracking this involvement of Russian troops since May. The advance party is already here – at each major fort/port in the US. This has been verified multiple times from multiple sources. His friend, Sgt Major Page has been saying his sources are telling him that they’re all supposed to be here by Christmas. John thinks it will before that from what he is hearing now.

The pieces seem to be fitting together, with no inconsistencies.  Obviously and clearly the Executive Branch knows the Russian troops are coming, and they are coming WITH THE CONSENT of the US Executive Branch and the DOD. He doesn’t know what cover story they’re using; it doesn’t matter. They may be telling US soldiers the Russians are coming for training purposes or to help us out in case there is civil disorder.

He’s been saying for years that it won’t necessarily be a Red Dawn type of invasion, although he is hearing that at some point there could be some paratroopers to take over or destroy certain places.

…verified numerous times from numerous independent sources that don’t know each other.  Yes, they are here; they started arriving in May. Originally we were told it would be two dozen Russians for a training operation that would last a few days. At the Denver Airport where they were going to practice taking over the CIA HQ at Denver Airport. That, of course, came and went. It was only a couple of weeks later that we found out that was hundreds of Russians – coming to Ft Carson, CO, and hundreds of Russians coming into forts throughout the U.S.

And these are not regular soldiers, but Russian Spetsnaz – the mostly highly trained, most respected Special Forces troops on the planet.  It’s real; it’s in our face, and we need to be aware of it and be prepared to deal with it.

Now, a little bit about Russian Spetsnaz. The recruitment process begins in Kindergarten, if you can believe that. They go through the Russian kindergartens and they give diagnostic tests to find out what 5-year-old boys – 13 years in the future – will be very bright, very athletic and have the ability to learn new languages, and that they will think it’s perfectly normal to jump out of airplanes in the middle of the night and kill people. Once they pass these tests they are recruited into special schools where they start teaching these young men English at the age of five.

A friend of mine grew up speaking a Slavic language, and he escaped from the Czech Republic. I asked him how a native born Slavic speaking person gets to speak English with a neutral Nebraska accent. He said, “there’s only one way, John. You start teaching them when they’re five years old.” And these Russian Spetsnaz do speak English with a neutral Nebraskan accent. You can’t tell them from your neighbor. If he’s standing in line at WalMart you just assume he’s another American.They train in American uniforms. My friend, Page, worked with these men in Bosnia, and they bragged at what they were doing in Bosnia – going door to door collecting weapons as practice for what the would be doing in America.  They openly bragged and thought it was funny.

Caller w/update from Scott Air Force Base. Their runway is 500’ above sea level. They’re also building a new sewage plant, and this week they are having a “transfer of operations” drill. They are the home of Air Mobility Command. They control every flight in the world, and they’re having a drill to transfer all those operations to an unknown location. I got this from a dear friend of mine who works in Maintenance, and he has clearance to work in all the classified areas such as Operations Control.

John: …a bit of trivia, my fater and grandfather worked as plumbers there in the teens and 1920’s. That’s good information; if you get more please pass it along. (lost picture here….)

Caller Tom:  He has 3 independent sources on this. The kiosk guys right outside Dover, Delaware at the mall…Dover is a major mortuary hub where they bring in all the bodies..the guys in the kiosk are Israeli spies; they’re more interested in what you can tell them than they are in selling anything, so tell them nothing.

John: We had a number of reports earlier in the year from my Mexican source, Alexander Bachmann, talking about Mexico and the Chinese groups … Chinese heavy armor in Mexico being prepositioned to invade the US. John has known about this for a number of years. There is also a Russian presence in Mexico. In fact, his friend, Page, was at a Russian base in Mexico. They will be in the US, going door to door, disarming Americans. The Russian Marxist Communist beliefs and goals have not deviated at all, not one bit, since 1917. It’s always been to dominate the world economically, politically and socially.  The alleged collapse – which was a staged event – of Communism in 1988-90 was planned decades in advance.

John says Dover is a major drug center, along with being a mortuary hub.

Caller Larry: Do you think the plan is that once Nibiru passes it would be a perfect time to take over?

John: That’s what this private confidential source is saying, and it certainly fits; it makes sense with everything else.

C: Sure, in times of chaos when everything is broken down. When you shut down communications from a national disaster it’s pretty easy to herd the sheep.

John: This would be the opportunity of 30 lifetimes.

C: With 25,000 Special Ops troops the American people would be at a real disadvantage even if they were armed, wouldn’t they?

J: Yes and no.  They may be tough, and they may be good, but they all bleed and die like anybody else.

C: You can always go for the throat. But, you’ve got to be prepared mentally. That’s what I’ve been trying to do. Spiritually. I know people here who read their Bibles, and they know how to lock and load

J: To go against any armed force, you basically run and hide, and you pick and choose where you make an attack. It could be one shot at a distance, preferably more than 300 yds. Only one shot. It’s very difficult to tell where one shot’s from. The 2^nd shot they’ll nail you. You make your one shot, you take out a Russian colonel or captain or sergeant major – and you make a run for it and live to fight another day.

C: That’s the whole psychological aspect of guerrilla type warfare. You can use their own selves against them that way.

J: Absolutely. Get a big bag and a few dozen screen door springs. A Navy Seal friend of mine told me, go out in the bush – you want to do escape and evasion, and take a couple dozen screen door springs with you. Think about it … what you can do with screen door springs. Think about it. You know what I’m talking about.

Caller Gail: I just wanted to share a little more information about the unfolding fiasco down there in the Louisiana Bayou … A couple of nights ago on one of the forums a guy who said he was from the Louisiana National Guard posted: “Being prepped. On standby. Large postal event soon. A week to a month out. Trust my experience. I do not get the impression that it will affect the Atlantic or Gulf Coast. Refugees are expected. This will be bigger than the Mississippi drill that we were on last year, even tho I’m pretty sure this is not for this area. This will be my only post. I will not be answering questions. Duty done for both sides." 

Now getting back to this Parish Corne. This was on Fox, CNN, etc. this weekend and there was a general on there, retired military who said that these bubbling methane pockets are in the thousands, not just in a little isolated area that the official story would like for us to believe.

Caller Brad: This Soviet invasion is almost an act of treason, isn’t it?

John: There’s no ‘almost’ about it. Of course it is. It’s being brought in with the consent of our federal government, and they’re not here to help us – although that’s what we’ll be told.

C: When can we actually engage them when they’re here to do us harm? As a 2^nd Amendment Keeper?

John: You won’t have to ask that question. You’ll know when it’s time. There will be no doubt in your mind. There will be something .. it may be the flyby of Nibiru or a false flag, but there will be something. When you see troops coming down the street demanding firearms there will be no doubt in your mind what you need to be doing.

C: Hypothetically, would we get prosecuted if we engaged them at WalMart across from Nellis AFB?

John: You don’t need to be going after unarmed men shopping at WalMart. There will be armed troops on your street at some point and they’ll give incentives for your neighbors to turn in people that have guns. It may be in the form of food or other supplies. That’s how bad it could be. That’s what they did in  Bosnia.  They got neighbors to turn in neighbors.

C: Do they have boot knives (in their boots)?

John: I wouldn’t worry about knives or any other weapons. They will primarily use firearms.

C: Do they have any weakness besides their over-confidence on our soil?

John: Their weakness is that they don’t belong here. We have what’s called territorial parity (? not sure of word..CMR)…that gives us a huge advantage. There’s nothing more dangerous than a man who 1) knows he’s right and 2) has no fear. There’s nothing more dangerous than that.

I do get updates every day. The updates I got Saturday about the Russians was very significant. It was a call I was hoping I wouldn’t get, but I did. Connecting the two matters. We’ve had no connection between the two prior to that. But we now have the connection between the Russians being here … an Nibiru. And it makes perfect sense.

So as the week progresses we will be giving you further updates. You all be safe out there, buy lots of ammunition, never give up your guns. If you’re behind enemy lines, the code words for today are “The crayons are blue.” Be safe, and God bless America.

I’m developing a new contact who is at Ft Glenwood (?), Missouri. But first let’s do some EARTH CHANGE  headlines from StanDeyo.com and then we’ll get to the new information that I received yesterday from the new contact.

Flooding coulod close roads in California in 4 Corners area. Rare tornedo hits Long Island. Duluth, MN has first tornado on record. Torrential rains wreak havoc in New Zealand. More coming. Strongest winds in 6 yrs hit Sydney, Australia. 13 dead as lightning strikes Bangladesh mosque. New Zealand volcanic mudslides pose new risk. Pacific EQ swarms sparks underwater volcanos. China reservoir collapse; kills at least ten. 10,000 earthworms killed in China EQ (who slipped this one in?!).

INFO FROM NEW CONTACT:

Dozens of semi tractor-trailer loads of large plastic coffins that can hold 5 people each, being delivered to Ft Glenwood .  There is a frenzied, frantic push to teach the following skills due to the young solders there:  Carpentry, plumbing, and electrical.  Why? They know there’s going to be a lot of building going on. My contact reports awareness that the Mississippi River will soon be 50-100 miles wide when the Great Lakes open up and destroys all the bridges between Chicago and New Orleans.

My contact is aware that the FEMA camps, which are little more than refugee camps, are built on high ground away from the soon-to-be-flooded Mississippi Valley.

I hope my new contact has my DVD “Global warming: What the Gov’t Isn’t Telling You.” There’s a 'cut-out' between my contact and myself – doesn’t even know that they ARE my new contact.  That’s the best of both worlds. What I run into a lot is that people like this new contact they somehow, some way, either by having classified contacts or a fishing buddy, they somehow find out what will happen, but they don’t know WHY it will happen. Knowing why is an important part of the equation, by allowing the person to make more sense out of it and acquire details and be able to look for things that they otherwise wouldn’t notice. I hope that sometime in the next few days the person does acquire the DVD, which I did ask the cut-out to deliver.    Miscellaneous talk by John about being a radio host…..And how it has become a network of intel with all the other hosts, guests, etc…..they get to know a lot of people and a lot of stuff….

Once he determined that PX was real – and a real issue – he began focusing like a laser on that topic.

We have a window of time.  2 weeks of August, 4 wks of September, hopefully 4 wks of October. That’s ten weeks. Then he goes into what can be done in the areas of Skills, Supplies, Training, Education, water filters, canned goods, freeze dried food, beans and rice, thrift stores, firearms training, outdoor clothing, electrical. Cash. Super foods like Chia. NIGHT VISION capability.

"Get a haircut at 2 PM" : code words for those in enemy territory today.

So, I hope you are getting the entire picture here.  Nibiru/PX will be used as a chaotic opportunity for our government to turn loose foreign troops from the North and the South to disarm and kill as many people in the US as possible.  This could very well be the time "The Chosen Ones" are let loose on us, too.  This is 'our' Government's solution to the "Guns and Christian" problem. Now you know. For two years I have seen this as a time when the Rapture might occur. That is certainly my HOPE.

What should we do, you ask? All I can do is tell you what WE are doing. Nothing. We were prepared for Y2K almost 13 years ago. This time we are getting too old to cope with all this. If Russian or Chinese troops beat down our door with plans to mow us down ... so be it. Our hope is in the Lord and our lives are in His hands. It doesn't get any better than that.

I will leave this up two days before posting more on Friday, the possible date of PX's first fly by. It (with its planets) will fly past Earth, make a loop and come back around Earth on its way out sometime in the last week of September. It is what is causing all of the strange earth weather, and any time between now and late September can cause problems. So why is the military onslaught against us talking about late October? Either they are lying, or more likely they will wait until PX passes by both times, and then will commit a FALSE FLAG, over which they have more control, which will give them more - and assured - chaos.

CRITICAL INFORMATION: Planet-X, Life/Death Matters

It is important that you read everything on this page. I will be posting updates as I receive them. All of this information is now coming from numerous military and intelligence people. This post includes information about armed (including foreign) troops, martial law. Tomorrow I will post more earth changes and  updates on the Nibiru/Planet-X, possible timeline (this week?), and all related matters.

DHS and US Military Make Final Preparations Before Announcing Martial Law (This article is 6 days old)

Informants and military personnel are coming forth anonymously to confirm that martial law “is right around the corner.” However, right now we are under a silent martial law and citizens are reporting strange and unexplainable activity from the US armed forces and multiple federal agencies that point to a covert preparatory operation to completely lock down America in the very near future.

Sources from multiple locations across the nation have independently confirmed that the US military are repositioning soldiers in conjunction with allied foreign troops in the initial stages of martial law.

The US military are secretly moving massive amounts of “equipment” across the country consistently for more than a year. In Phoenix, Arizona, tractor-trailers transporting tanks on public highways have been spotted. One witness stated that he saw these flatbeds multiple times in the month of June. Eye witness reports are coming primarily from the northern and southern Border States.

Peter Santilli, an ex-marine informant who was a specialist in aviation deployed weapons, explains that a refrigerated truck, allocated by the administration department on base, was directed to the commissary, where the unsuspecting driver believed that he was transporting food. The weapon was placed at the head of the trailer, and covered up with either food stores (like cans of soup) or body bags. In the event that the truck is stopped en route, the weapon would be well hidden and go undetected by inspectors on the public highways. [They are not going unnoticed.]

Santilli, who was assigned to ride in the cab of the truck with the driver, says that his orders were to make sure the truck arrived at its destination. If there were problems concerning potential civil unrest, he was to radio into his superiors for aid by either air or ground support. Should the situation warrant serious attention; crowd control methods would be implemented.

One possible scenario was the use of cluster bomb units (CBUs) that will emit upon detonation, a “sleep and kill” chemical weapon that will not disturb infrastructure, but is lethal to all living things within the effected zone. Santilli describes these particular 3 unit CBUs as shaped like water-heaters with a coned top and plunger-like device. Once deployed in the air, a parachute assists these CBUs to the targeted area. And when detonated, a deadly chemical gas will kill every human and animal in the specified cordoned area.

The acquisition of armor by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and contracts for bullet-proof glass for check-point booths to be positioned strategically throughout the nation on public highways have heightened awareness that the US government is preparing for a well-planned domestic military action. DHS armored vehicles have been sighted on highways in Kentucky.

When citizens attempt to capture the activity on film, some have their cameras confiscated; sometimes after a physical altercation.

On Google Maps, where known military bases were once visible, some strategic areas are now blurred out.

John (a pseudonym) was contracted by DHS to “fill in caves, mines and block trails”. Now these measures are being stepped up, as independent contractors are being brought to mountainous regions and told to block all entrances into the mountains, by way of caves and other areas where people could possibly “hide out in the hills” during a riot situation under declaration of martial law.

Forested areas in states like Montana, Missouri and Arkansas are being closed to the public while military activity is being witnessed by locals. Those commercially contracted civilians working in these areas are allocated parallel shifts and compartmentalized projects to provide for an intelligence controlled operation.

One informant relayed an incident where he was detained on a forest road by unidentified “paramilitary” officials that seized his rifle from the rack on the back of his vehicle. Another source said that while traveling in a national forest park, he and his party were met by what appeared to be a military police officer who demanded that they turn back. Residents in Pine Mountain, Georgia and Spruce Mountain, Nevada have had confrontations with US armed forces. When traveling in public national forested areas, military police with “automatic weapons” say that locals cannot gather wood in surrounding forested spaces (as they have traditionally done for decades). One man in particular had his rifle forcibly confiscated by unidentified armed men.

On dirt roads leading to the Lassen National Forest reserve, paving is being laid over the gravel roads. The locals know that secret underground drilling or tunneling is being conducted. Whenever they enter the park, they are quickly escorted out by heavily armed and quite menacing persons. Even once abandoned logging roads are beginning to see activity again. Information coming out of reserve units in Arizona is that they are being put on official alert. 

Military personnel are being told by superiors not to schedule vacations and prepare to be on-call and on-duty indefinitely. According to one informant, these new assignments are not providing for deployment overseas, but rather for domestic service with the intimation that these deployments may have relation to civil unrest expectations.

In Lake Havasu, Arizona, and Colorado Springs as well as Fort Collins, Colorado, locals are coming forth to report that local fires may have been lit by foreign troops; specifically Russian forces that have been spotted in the area. These Russian troops are believed to be stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. Military drills, a.k.a. urban warfare, have been played out in many states by the Pentagon and other branches of the US armed forces.

In Plainville and Worchester, Massachusetts, surprised citizens witnessed last “Wednesday evening. . . military helicopters descended on the vacant Wood School [in] the late hours of the night in a scene that might have appeared to simulate the United States’ special forces attack on Osama bin Laden’s compound last year.” Many locals had their homes swooped down upon by black helicopters in an obvious display of military dominance over the general public. Residents saw helicopters landing near Worcester Memorial Auditorium in Lincoln Square. Local newspapers were flooded with “telephone calls and e-mails . . . curious about what was happening.”

The local police claim they were unaware of the drills. A US Army spokeswoman made a half-hearted apology for “any inconvenience or unforeseen disturbance.”

 

In Hollywood, Florida, DHS and the Hollywood Police Department have taken part in Master Rappelling training exercises (MPTE) with Blackhawk helicopters scheduled over various government-owned buildings. Details concerning the drills are being kept from the public for “security reasons”.

MPTE are special operations to teach law enforcement and military techniques in tactical rope and rappelling skills that can be used in helicopter deployment and advanced tactical training. Just this month, foreign troops were caught at a Wal-Mart . They were traveling in what were described as “large government vans”.

Law-enforcement battalions have been created out of Camp Pendleton, California, consisting of specialized military police (SMPs) that would be deployed to assist in any event of civil disturbance, handling of detainees, use biometrics to identify suspects and conduct forensic work. Their assistance is not limited to conducting DUIs and writing speeding tickets in an effort to re-brand the Marine Corps as being more involved with average work now allocated to local law enforcement.

Moving around in white, unmarked vans, strange troops have been seen purchasing food and water at another Wal-Mart in Franklin, Indiana. Parading in military personnel fatigues where drone activity has been reported in Oklahoma City and black helicopters were spotted hovering over a construction site.

According to documents from the RAND Corporation, a planned event concerning a Police Stabilization Force within the US will be “a mix of military and police forces to deal with a range of threats.” The study explains:

• What the response should be
• The creation of a high-end police force
• Costs for this military/police collaborative force

Estimates are $637.3 million annually and including many federal agencies including: the US Marshals Service, the US Secret Service, the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) in the Department of State, and the US Army’s Military Police.
There is a media blackout concerning the “state of emergency” (code for martial law) that Anaheim, California residents have been under since the murder of a man by local police.

While protests have been conducted, residents say that “outsiders” are infiltrating peaceful demonstrations to stir up violence and ensure local and military police action against them. While city officials are gearing up for “another large incident” and “another riot” protesters are coming forth to voice their disdain at the “infiltrators” that attended a protest that ended with the fatal shooting of two Latino men.

During protest marches in Anaheim, the white, unmarked vans have resurfaced. This time unidentified “police” detained protesters and placed them into these vans.

The US military have orders to shoot and kill all dissenters. They are being trained to confiscate guns and detain people in “internment” or FEMA camps. My cosmic journey began at a very young age when the questions, “Who am I? What is my purpose in life?” and “What am I doing here?” haunted me and burned in my mind night and day. While other children were content to play, I was driven to ask questions about the meaning of life. Raised in New York City, I came from a liberal, educated family. Both my parents were teachers, and neither believed in God or religion.

As a young boy, I thought science could give me the answers to my questions about life. Reading every book I could get my hands on about science and the lives of the great scientists. I often devoured ten books a week. I read about men like Albert Einstein, Nicola Tesla, Thomas Edison, Enrico Fermi, Louis Pasteur, John Oppenheimer and Dr. Robert Goddard, the father of American rocketry. Goddard was mocked by a 1920, a front-page story in The New York Times, "Believes Rocket Can Reach Moon,” where his idea was ridiculed. I learned early on that most people think and live inside the box, for fear of ridicule. I vowed that I would not be bound by the opinions of frightened little men and women. Building a huge laboratory in my New York City bedroom, I undertook amateur experiments in cryogenics, where I attempted to freeze plants for some future purpose. 

Soon, however, I realized that these scientists did not have the answers I was looking for. Thus, at an early age I discovered the bankruptcy of pure scientific materialism and like the authors I admired like Aldous Huxley, Dr. John C. Lilly, Ken Kesey, Jack Kerouac and Timothy Leary, I looked for answers beyond the doors of perception. 

After exhausting science as a means of finding the meaning of life, I next investigated the occult and Eastern religions. Biblical Christianity was not even an option for me. At that time, I had never once met a Bible-believing Christian or seen an evangelist on television, or in churches, that had any understanding of what I am writing to you about. The only religion we had at home was secular humanism – the belief that there is no God and man is the center of the universe. As a result, I was raised to believe that there was no absolute right or wrong. Around the dinner table, my parents taught me that human evil was due to ignorance and that the concept of a personal God was an archaic belief any educated person should transcend. In addition, they told me that Christians were intellectually pathetic people who were “anti-love,” “anti-joy,” and “anti-sex.” Instead of promoting anything good, Christians were responsible for the crusades and the Inquisition. Obviously, that was highly prejudiced view, but that is what I was taught.

One Thanksgiving evening my grandmother asked my father to pray. Instead, he launched into a thunderous tirade about how there was no reason to thank God – everything we had came from man’s hard work.

In the atheistic environment of my home, the spiritual void within me grew deeper, and I plunged headlong into the New Age philosophies and radical politics. These are the superficial radical politics that have now become the consensus for entertainment, politics, education and media. Soon after I reached puberty, my parents divorced, ripping my world apart. My spiritual pilgrimage merged with a growing hatred of all authority and society. I was ripe to be seduced by the counterculture and the psychedelic philosophy of the ’60s which has now become the New Age Movement.

Although my mother held a secular humanist worldview, she was always full of loving concern and discipline. She spent thousands of hours reading me books and taking me to museums and libraries. Genuinely concerned about her rebellious son, my mother sent me to a psychotherapist whom she hoped would solve my rebellion. Since in my quest for truth, I had read countless books by psychological theorists, like Carl Rogers, Sigmund Freud, B.F. Skinner, Carl Jung, Primal Therapy by Arthur Janov, Abraham Maslow and others. Many of my childhood friend’s parents were psychologists and psychiatrists. As a group I found the majority of these people among the most intellectually lost, disconnected from reality and messed up people I had ever read about. I thought the writings of Sigmund Freud, nothing more than the projections of his personal insanity. These were men and women lost in a maze of their own delusion.

I told my therapist that I wanted to know why I was alive, who I was, and what purpose there was for my life. He could not help me and only provided a listening board. In the vain hope of finding answers, I began reading Sigmund Freud, Carl Rogers, and Carl Jung. But all the leading psychological theorists seemed to contradict each other, and I was left more confused than ever.

Then the “hippie” movement with its drugs and “free love” exploded across the nation. I remember the first time I saw Timothy Leary. Wearing a white outfit and grinning like the “Cheshire Cat” from Alice In Wonderland, he said on national television “Tune in, turn on, and drop out.” This psychedelic prophet of LSD was in distinct contrast to the people involved in organized religion. Then the Beatles recorded “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” and the psychedelic invasion of drugs, Eastern religion, and promiscuous sex spread.

At the age of fifteen, I was wearing long hair and boots and demonstrating with Abbie Hoffman in New York City. I organized demonstrations and was even made an honorary member of the Black Panther Party. Beneath all the bravado, these were men and women who pathetically clung to the failed theories of Karl Marx. Simultaneously, I deepened my activities in Eastern mysticism and was introduced to drugs by an “honor student” in my high school. I read a book by Aldous Huxley titled Heaven and Hell and the Doors of Perception, which describes Huxley’s experimentation with hashish and mescaline as a means to enter a higher state of consciousness. This fellow student, whose father was a doctor, “turned me on” to hashish and mescaline as part of a serious scientific experiment. Together, we passed through the “doors of perception” and entered a higher realm of consciousness.

Fueled by drugs like LSD and mescaline, it was the psychedelic ’60s that ushered in the current New Age Movement. Powerful mind altering drugs like LSD blasted people into the spiritual realm and forced them to acknowledge the presence of a spiritual reality. This opened the door to the occult and the myriad practices of Eastern mysticism that gave birth to the New Age Movement.

In my own life, the use of powerful psychedelic drugs like LSD intensified my plunge into the New Age philosophy and Eastern Mysticism. Thus began an electric pilgrimage into Hinduism, Buddhism, and the teachings of Don Juan, yoga, and mental telepathy, altered states of consciousness, hypnotherapy, astral projection, reincarnation, the occult, devil’s weed, spirit guides, and a smorgasbord of mystical experiences. I was greatly influenced by men like Baba Ram Dass, Ken Kesey, Timothy Leary, and Stephen Gaskin.

In fact, my major at the University of Missouri was called “Altered States of Consciousness,” a brand-new accredited field within the Department of Psychology. We studied different means of entering higher states of consciousness and engaged in exercises based on Eastern mystical teaching and experiences by men like Carlos Castaneda. It was during this time of intense New Age activity that I developed spiritual powers and “cosmic consciousness.”

My professor at the University of Missouri was a practicing mystic and taught a number of courses on mental illness. He believed, as did popular psychologists like R.D. Laing, that mental illness or madness could be a means of entering higher consciousness. In this theory, insane people are considered spiritual pilgrims caught between two realities.

My professor invited gurus to teach and perform supernatural feats of levitation. Once while my professor was lecturing, I imagined hearing a distinct voice within me shout, “Surrender to the dark forces within!” At this point in my life, I noticed a growing intensity in the manifestation of strong spiritual experiences. Yet at the same time, I had a growing feeling that this was self-induced, I believed I was moving toward “enlightenment, and therefore created a consciousness of enlightenment. This was a form of self-hypnosis. I became convinced that everything happening was due to my excess “karma” burning off. I felt like the journalist, Hunter Thompson, author of “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,” dropping acid before going into the casinos.

In the early ’70s, a strange thing happened at the University of Missouri. The Jesus Movement spread from the West Coast and entered the campus town of Columbia, Missouri. I remember seeing an article on the Jesus Movement in a national magazine. Reading about these Christians, who I thought were going to regress mankind into a new Dark Age with their “primitive blood-stained religion,” made me furious. I hated them because I thought they would stop the “revolution” and the establishment of the new world order based on higher consciousness. People involved in the New Age Movement hold the very same beliefs, for their goal is to create a one-world government and unify the planet under a spiritual system of higher consciousness. Like many New Agers, I viewed Christians with all their talk of Jesus Christ being the “only way” as an anachronism and a threat to the spiritual/political revolution coming to the planet.

About this time, however, I finally came face to face with Christians who seemed to have some connection with something divine. I delighted in attacking and debating these Christians in philosophy classes, whenever they spoke out about their faith. I attempted to humiliate them and prove them wrong through intellectual arguments.

In addition, I increased my “outrageous” behavior in front of Christians in an attempt to mock and ridicule them. Since I studied film, I made X-rated animation movies with Barbie dolls in an attempt to mock Judeo-Christian morality.

Finally, I challenged these Christians with all kinds of intellectual questions, so my religious friends gave me a book by Dr. Francis Schaeffer, “Escape from Reason.” I was shocked to discover that a person could be both intelligent and a Christian. Talking about God, film, art, and philosophy in brilliant and articulate terms, Dr. Schaeffer explained contemporary culture in a way I had never understood.

One afternoon a guy named Tim, who invited me to a retreat in a wooded area about an hour away from the campus. Dressed in boots, blue jeans, and long hair, I arrived at the retreat center. A brief look at the place quickly convinced me that these people didn’t have what I was looking for. They were the kind of Christians I had seen before – religious but lacking the depth and dimension of people who have claimed to have a personal encounter with Jesus Christ.

While at the retreat center, I noted vague references to the Bible, but primarily we played games like “spin the bottle.” I was totally disgusted, for these people reinforced my worst preconceptions about Christianity. After spending the night I told Tim during breakfast that I was going to hitchhike back to the university. Tim walked me to the highway and said, “Paul, God will take care of your ride home.” Wondering if he was some kind of religious nut but hoping to humor him, I said, “Yeah, yeah sure.” Then I stuck out my thumb and tried to hitch a ride.

The first person to pick me up was a Pentecostal preacher. He and his wife talked to me about Jesus the entire ride. Stunned, I chalked it up as coincidence; after all, this was the "Bible Belt." After they let me out, I stuck out my thumb and was picked up by a Bible salesman with a station wagon filled with Bibles! As we whizzed down the highway, he opened a giant Bible and began reading. With no hands on the wheel, he asked me if I wanted to pray ? I managed to gulp a “yes,” and he pulled off the road.

As we rolled to a stop, the thought raced through my mind, “What have I got myself into? Is this guy some kind of religious psychopath or axe murderer?” Growing up in New York City had taught me to suspect everybody’s motives and not to trust strangers.

The next thing I knew, this Bible salesman was leading me in some kind of fundamentalist a prayer. I wasn’t even sure what sin was, although it seemed to me like an archaic concept. But I managed to ask forgiveness for my sins, whatever that was. Hours later, I forgot the incident had even occurred and “partied” the night away with friends by getting drunk. The next day I woke up hung over and decided to visit a Christian girl named Laura. She and her boyfriend, Burgess, had spent a lot of time talking to me about Jesus Christ.

 Laura and I talked, we were walking next to some giant Roman columns in the university quadrangle. I told her about my highway experience, and another girl sitting on the lawn overheard our conversation. It turned out that she was a minister’s daughter wrestling with the question of whether or not Christianity was really true. Looking at me pointblank, she said, “Do you believe that Jesus Christ was the Son of God?”

All of a sudden the words, “Yes, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God!” leapt from deep within me. I was shocked. I had never said anything like that before. As I spoke, I had an overwhelmingly powerful spiritual experience. It seemed that the sky had cracked open, and the presence of God overwhelmed me. A giant veil was lifted from my eyes as I realized that the Personal Living God of the Universe actually existed.

The Promise of the Rapture - Part 4 (final)

CRITICALLY IMPORTANT:  SEE MY NOTE AT THE END OF THIS POST. CMR

I. Before the beginning of the day of the Lord

The text can only mean that Paul was comforting these believers. He was making it clear that, because the rapture came first and was a totally separate eschatological event, they need not be upset and worried. They should not think that they had entered that terrible time of trouble in which Christ would come to earth to destroy His enemies and establish His kingdom on earth. The up gathering together of the saints of the Church age destined them to seven years of rest while the earth, in great tribulation, still faced the coming of the King to establish His millennial kingdom.

Christ had been promised that reign on earth in eternity past in the decree. In Psalm 2 we have the record of His reporting that promise of the Father which was made in the eternal decree. He Who was fully God and coequal with the Father was to undertake His subordinate role as the Son of God. This He would do in order to accomplish all that was to be accomplished in time between the eternities. Psalm 2 records Christ's words as He quoted that which had been planned in the decree in eternity past. It includes the establishment of the Father/Son relationship in which these members of the Godhead would operate during time. But it also contains the promise of the Father to the One Who would serve in the subordinate position as the Son of God between the eternities that He would have an inheritance as His reward for that which He would accomplish. Because of all that He would do as the Son of God, He was promised in the decree that He would receive an earthly kingdom in which He would rule to the ends of the earth.

In the light of the interpretation of Psalm 2:7 by Hebrews 1:5, Christ is the member of the Godhead Who is speaking in verses 7-9 of the Psalm. He says: "I am determined [a determinative form in Hebrew which expresses that which He has chosen to do] to relate the details of the decree: The Eternal Lord has said to Me, You are My Son. This day [i.e., at this time] I become Your Father." In this verse the One Who would become the Messiah relates how His entry into the economic relationship with the First Person of the Godhead. That means that the ontological, or existence relationship which had existed from eternity, in which all three members of the Godhead always had been coequal in a perfectly balanced relationship, now was changing in order to accomplish all that the Godhead had planned to take place between the eternities. The economic relationship is being established. This is the working relationship in which both the Son and the Holy Spirit assume a subordinate relationship with the Father in order to accomplish the work that must be done by them between the eternities. This does not mean that either the Son or the Holy Spirit is any less God even though this temporary change in relationship has been established. Now the Son will take orders from the Father. The Holy Spirit will be involved in all that the Son will do on earth. And yet the Holy Spirit in some sense also is subordinate to the Son and Father. In the upper room Christ said to His disciples, "But when the Comforter has come, whom I will send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth Who will come forth from [the presence of] the Father, He will testify of Me..." (Jn. 15:26).

In Psalm 2:8-9 the Son continues to quote from that which the Father had said to Him in the decree. 

"Ask of Me, for I am determined to give [This is the second untranslated, determinative form in the Psalm. It is easy to see why the amillennial translators of King James' court chose not fully to translate this verb form!] to You the heathen for Your inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for Your possession. You will break them with a rod of iron. You will dash them into pieces like a potter's vessel." 

Here then is the promise of the Father that lies behind the Father's utter scorn of those who thought they could break the bands and the cords of the Eternal Lord and His Messiah. Because it was in the eternal decree that the Son would rule here on earth, the rejection and death of the Messiah which is anticipated in Psalm 2:10-3 absolutely will not thwart the plans of the Eternal. Here is the reason for the derisive laugh of the Lord sitting in the heavens. When the Jews and Gentiles crucified Christ they did not in the least thwart the eternal plan of the Godhead. Indeed, they only fulfilled that decree! 

'Then He will speak to them in His wrath, and He will vex them in His sore displeasure. 'Yet will I establish My King [Christ, the Messiah] upon My holy hill of Zion'" (Psalm 2:5-6).

Second Thessalonians chapters one and two are but a small portion of the revelation given to us in Scripture of the fact that, in great violence, Messiah one day will return to earth, will overthrow His enemies and will establish His earthly kingdom which will last for one thousand years. That will be the fulfilling of the promise made to the Messiah, the Son of God, which was made upon His return from the Mount of Olives to the Father's presence in heaven. 

The Eternal Lord said to my [David's] Lord, 'Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies Your footstool. The Eternal Lord will send the rod of Your strength out of Zion. Rule in the midst of Your enemies! Your people [Israel] will be willing in the day of Your power [when You rule] in the beauties of holiness from the womb of the morning. You will have the dew of Your youth'" (Psalm 110:1-3).

But the revelation of that great mystery, the rapture, is that the Church will not be here on earth at the time 

"...when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power when He will come to be glorified in His saints, and to be admired in all of those who believe..." (2 Thessalonians 1:7-10). 

Our episunagooge, our up gathering together is an event that takes away the trouble of heart and concern about passing through the tribulation stage of the day of the Lord.

Thus the great Apostle assures the troubled church of Thessalonica and all even to this age who read of that day and are troubled. 

"Now we beseech you, brothers, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ [to earth, in the early stages of the day of the Lord which clearly has been described in 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 above] and by our up gathering together [the rapture] unto Him, (2) that you should not be shaken in mind or be troubled, neither by spirit or by word neither by letter as if it had come from us, as [thinking] that the day of the Lord is at hand." 

Paul follows this instruction with a warning for the Church to beware of any that teach any other doctrine, a warning of crucial importance to the Church of Jesus Christ even today. "Let no man deceive you by any means..." (2 Thessalonians 2:3a).

It is regrettable that the amillennial translators of the King James Version followed a single very late Greek manuscript and its reading of 2 Thessalonians 2:2, which, as a result, incorrectly says "...that the day of Christ is at hand." The terminology, "the day of Christ" clearly is defined in Philippians 1:6-7, 10; 2:10-11 and 16. That term most certainly does not refer to the climax of the tribulation period here on earth. Instead, it specifically refers to that day in which we are in heaven in the presence of Christ. The following of that very late reading, "the day of Christ," desperately obscures that which is being revealed about the rapture in this context. Paul clearly is contrasting the"up- gathering-together" of Church believers in the rapture with the Day of the Lord. The correct reading, found in all ancient manuscripts of 2 Thessalonians, is "the day of the Lord." I conclude that this great eschatological period begins with the signing of the covenant to bring peace in the land of Israel by the one who will become the world ruler for the last three and one half years of the tribulation.

I have stated this in my doctoral dissertation, Joel's Concept of the Day of the Lord, at Dallas Theological Seminary in 1961. I insist that the day of the Lord is that period which lies between the signing of that covenant as described in Daniel 9:26b-27 and the great white throne judgment of unbelievers by Christ in preparation for the Day of God. In spite of the misunderstanding of many, these verses absolutely are revealing that there is no possibility whatsoever that the rapture will occur somewhere in the early days of the eschatological period which is called "the day of the Lord." There is to be no confusion at that point.

J. Before the bema or judgment seat of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:9-10)

In Second Corinthians 5:10 the Apostle Paul looks forward to that day in heaven when believers receive their rewards for the way that they have served the Lord while they were here on earth. 

"Wherefore we labor in order that, whether we are present [here on earth before death] or absent, we may be accepted by Him. For all of us [believers] must appear before the judgment seat of Christ, in order that every one may receive the things done in his body, according that which he has done, whether it is good or worthless." 

It is clear that the departure of the Church for heaven in the rapture must come before that day when our Judge, the Lord Jesus, determines our rewards.

K. Shortly before our coming before God the Father (1 Thessalonians 3:13)

I conclude that Paul, in First Thessalonians 3:13, refers to an event which follows the judgment seat of Christ. He longs for the Thessalonian believers to 

"...Increase and abound in love toward one another and toward all, even as we do toward you, to the end that He may establish your hearts unblamable in holiness before God at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all of His saints." 

To me that suggests that we believers should be occupied with living our Christian lives in utter devotion to the Lord, allowing Him to transform our lives into the glorious pattern of holiness which Christ would like to see here on earth. And yet the phrase, "...unblamable in holiness before God" actually will not be fully exhibited in us only at the time of our coming before God. For us to reach that glorious time when nothing of our shortcomings here on earth can only come when Christ at the Bema seat has taken care of all of our failures. Only then will be be fully conformed to the likeness of Christ as described by Paul in Romans 8:29.

"For whom He foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son in order that He [Christ] might be the firstborn among many brethren." 

It appears that Paul in 1 Thessalonians 3:13 actually is looking forward to that time after the judgment seat of Christ when our Savior presents up to the Father, fully conformed to the likeness of Jesus Christ. Surely it is of that glorious day of which the Apostle John is speaking in 1 John 3:2. 

"Beloved, we now are the born ones of God, and it does not yet appear what we shall be. But we do know that when He will appear, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is."

L. Before the Day of The Lord

1. The times and the seasons of our departure (1 Thessalonians 5:1-11)
The word that connects 1 Thessalonians 4 to the 5th chapter introduces the review of the truth that Paul already had taught the Thessalonians. Once the reader of this section recognizes how carefully Paul distinguishes those who will be involved with Christ's coming at the rapture from those who will suffer judgment at the time of Christ's return to earth, it will become involved that believers will not be involved in the suffering of the day of the Lord. The pronouns "you, we" and "us," contrasted with "they" and "them," inescapably draw that distinction. 

"But about the times and the seasons, brothers, you do not have any need for me to write to you. (2) The reason is that you yourselves perfectly well know that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. (3) For when they say: 'Peace and safety,' then sudden destruction comes upon them like travail comes upon a woman with child, and they will not escape. (4) But you, brothers, are not in darkness, with the result that that day [the day of the Lord] should overtake you like a thief. (5) You all are the sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night or of darkness. (6) Therefore let us not sleep [here the sleep of indolence] as do others, but let us watch and be sober, (7) for they that sleep, sleep in the night, and they who are drunken are drunken in the night. (8) But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and the assurance of salvation for an helmet. (9) For God has not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord, Jesus Christ, (10) Who died for us, so that, whether we are awake [i.e., alive] or sleep [i.e., dead], we should live together with Him. (11) Wherefore you comfort yourselves together, and build one another up, even as you also do" (1 Thessalonians 5:1-11).

It is clear from Paul's careful distinction that the day of the Lord will not come upon believers. The judgment aspect of the early part of the day of the Lord is destined to fall upon those who are unbelievers and not upon those whom Paul was addressing or even upon us. It is obvious that the day of the Lord is not to be a matter of fear to the believer for it is upon those who will have ignored the gracious invitation of the Lord Jesus to receive His salvation. Yet one more section of Paul's instruction about the rapture, so long misunderstood and distorted from its original intent, tells us that believers will not be involved in the day of the Lord as recipients of the trials and tribulation which will fall upon unbelievers in that great day.

2. During hee apostosia, actually time of our departure (2 Thessalonians 2:1-3)

One of the most painful pieces of Bible translation that the one who is interested in eschatology can find is the way that practically all translators have treated 2 Thessalonians 2:3. It is in their translating hee apostosia as "a [religious] falling away." In the first place the Greek definite article, hee, , "the" has been ignored or mistranslated by the indefinite article "a" in English by most translators. That would seem to be an insignificant change at first. However, the definite article repeatedly is used as an article of previous reference. That is, it tells us that the noun that follows the article refers to a previous mention of the same subject. In other words, the reader is told by the definite article to look for the same subject earlier discussed by hee apostosia in the immediately preceding context. The significance of the mistake of ignoring the definite article will become obvious in the following discussion.

The second problem in 2 Thessalonians 2:3 is the fact that the translators have assumed that the noun apostosia is being used in an extended meaning, and not in its basic meaning, "departure." It has been translated "a falling away" in the King James Bible. The New American Standard Bible transliterates the noun into English letters, "apostasy," thus suggesting that the word refers the departure of a believer from the truth. This improves the reading only in that the definite article is acknowledged and is correctly translated by the English article, "the." But to what previous reference to "the departure from the truth" is there in the previous context of this book? There is none. And that raises serious question concerning the accuracy of the translation of the noun and article, hee apostosia by "the apostasy." The New International Version provides a translation that has somewhat better possibility of being accurate. It renders the noun "the rebellion." I say that it has somewhat better possibility since there are obvious signs of rebellion in chapter one. However the question must be asked, "Is "the rebellion" really a valid translation of hee apostosia ? Is this a word that properly is applied to the rebellion of the unsaved against the Lord Jesus Christ? Would it not be more appropriately used of the departure of those involved in the faith from their Biblical foundations? But is that the meaning?

Now there are several verses in the New Testament that clearly do announce that in the latter days there will be much religious apostasy. Indeed, that is precisely the case in the much of the Church today. But, by assuming that the Greek noun was referring to religious apostasy, the going away from the faith, the translators have ignored the possibility that the noun is being used in its basic meaning instead of its extended meaning. The noun actually is used in its basic meaning in four other passages in the New Testament. It is amazing to see modern day translators misunderstanding the meaning of the noun when both Tyndale and Cloverdale long ago properly translated the phrase simply as "the departure." And here is the basic and common meaning of the noun in Greek usage.

Is there a departure mentioned in the preceding context to which the article of previous reference could be pointing? Indeed, there is, and it is only two verses before. For this reason I reject the translation of hee apostosia in ways that imply that the noun as used here refers to religious apostasy. After all, the antecedent "going away" or "departure" in 2 Thessalonians 2:1 specifically refers to the going away of the Church in "the up-gathering-together" of the saints of the Church. For this reason I insist that 2 Thessalonians 2:3 must be referring to the rapture and that the verse should be translated in this way. "Let no man deceive you by any means [including the mistranslating of he apostosia], for that day will not come [i.e., the day of the Lord] except the previously mentioned going away comes first and the man of lawlessness comes to be revealed, the son of perdition." Properly understood the verse perfectly harmonizes with Paul's comforting assurance in the first verse of the chapter that the believers at Thessalonica were not already in the day of the Lord. Indeed, verse three gives the basis for that assurance. Paul clearly is saying that the day of the Lord and the manifestation of the man of sin in the day of the Lord cannot possibly arrive before the going away of the Church in the "up gathering together," the rapture of the Church. What a pity that this great truth has been lost for so many in the Church as a result of the amillennial translators who refused the accurate work of Tyndale and Cloverdale because they did not even believe in the rapture, with the result that they rendered he apostosia as "a falling away."

REMEMBER WHEN I TAUGHT YOU THESE THINGS? (2 Thessalonians 2:5)

No sooner has Paul re-taught these things to the Thessalonian church than he reminds them that they had heard these truths before from his own lips. 

"Don't you remember that even while I still was with you, I used to tell you these things?" (2 Thessalonians 2:5). 

The impact of Paul's rebuke stings even more when one realizes that he carefully had taught these things again to that church in 1 Thessalonians 4 and 5. How sad it is that the Church today, often like the church at Thessalonica, needs to be reminded and rebuked for their careless treatment of this great eschatological truth. It clearly promises the departure and deliverance of the Church of Jesus Christ from the terrors of the seven years and from all of the tribulation which faces the world, tribulation which will be climaxed by the glorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ with all of His saints to earth.

CONCLUSION

One of the great tragedies of Bible translation is the mistake made by the English Catholic translators when they translated hee apostosia by "apostasy." That error has been followed by scores of other translators in the centuries that have followed. That has resulted in the obscuring of Paul's very precise explanation of the time when the rapture would take place has resulted in tragic confusion among those who, contrary to Paul's explicit statement, want to expect the rapture at mid-tribulation or at the end of the tribulation. Of course that in turn has resulted in a continually growing host of confused believers who no longer live their lives in the constant expectation of Christ's return in the air at any moment for the Church. Indeed, the translation of hee apostosia in such a way that it refers only to rising religious apostasy has left multitudes of believers open to that confusion which denies the pre-tribulation rapture of the Church. While several texts of Scripture do teach that the Church will degenerate in its faith and practice in the latter days, Second Thessalonians 2:3 is in a context which has nothing to do with religious apostasy. The article that accompanies apostosia in that text, ignored in many translations, is the key. This article of previous reference directly links "the departure" in that verse with the previous mention of the departure of the Church in "our up-gathering-together." It leaves no doubt whatsoever that the departure of the Church must precede the events which start the Day of the Lord, an extended period which will begin with the tribulation, the time of Jacob's troubles.

The Promise of the Rapture - Part 3

II. THE TIMING OF THE RAPTURE

Now it is necessary to review the event series in which the rapture of the Church will take place. It is crucial that this series of events be brought into perspective and that their order of occurrences be recognized. Otherwise it is easy for one to fall prey to one of the misunderstandings concerning the timing of the rapture in the eschatological event series.

A. When the Lord descends from heaven (1 Thessalonians 4:16)

It is clear from Romans 9-11 that Paul considered the teaching of things to come to be a vital part of the discipling through which a new believer should be taken. In my book "True Evangelism" (or "Biblical Evangelism")--as practiced by Paul in Romans 1:15-6:10," I show that Paul practiced five very careful steps in his evangelism. This book already has been published on CD by LOGOS in Oak Harbor, Washington. In my second book on Romans (in the publisher's hands) I show that in Romans 6:10-15:31 Paul then took five very careful steps in the discipling of the one who has come to Christ. The third step which he took is found in Romans 9-11. In this section he focuses upon the teaching of the believer of things to come. It is clear that he knew that the understanding of the great things that our God is going to do in the future serves as a powerful incentive for the believer to live a spiritual life as he or she looks forward to these great events in the future.

In Paul's ministry it is apparent that he practiced the principles, both of evangelism and of discipleship which he teaches in the book of Romans. Acts 17 describes his work of founding the church at Thessalonica. We are told that he came there and that for "...three Sabbath days [he] reasoned with them out of the Scriptures, opening and alleging that it was necessary for Messiah to have suffered, and to have risen from the dead, and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you is the Messiah. And some of them believed and consorted with Paul and Silas, and a great multitude of the devout Jews also and of the chief women not a few" (Acts 17:2-4). But the following context shows that the unbelieving Jews raised a tumult that greatly troubled the city. As a result Paul and Silas left Thessalonica by night and traveled on to Berea.

In that short time of three weeks it is obvious from statements made in First and Second Thessalonians that Paul had taught the believers things to come. But it is also clear from 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 that he was concerned about the fact that they had not fully grasped all that he had been able to teach those believers in the fragments of time that he was able to be with them. It is clear that Paul, in his first epistle to the Thessalonian church, was writing to help them to understand more about the rapture. He sought to help them to understand that believers that had died now were with the Lord and would be returning to earth with Him to receive their resurrected bodies at the rapture. And as he developed that theme in 1 Thessalonians 4 he also clarified the fact that, when the Lord descended from heaven with believers that already had died, immediately afterward living believers would be transformed into their eternal bodies and caught up to be with the Lord.

B. At the great shout of the Lord (1 Thessalonians 4:16)

As Paul developed those truths about the resurrection of departed New Testament believers who were in Christ Jesus, he adds details concerning the immediate event series. Suddenly believers on earth would hear the voice of the Lord from heaven as He descended to catch up believers, both those resurrected and those transformed to be with Him. I have suggested earlier that the call that took John, the elder statesman of the book of Revelation, into heaven in Spirit to hear of the great things which yet were to come. And I have suggested that John probably is somewhat of a forerunner of the church in this regard, and that the shout of the Lord is that which will take us from our earthly residence to our promised heavenly residence. Christ had said in the upper room in John 14:1-3: 

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God. Believe also in Me. In My Father's house are many mansions. If this were not so I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. (3) And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and I will receive you unto Myself in order that where I am, you also may be."

I think that it is altogether possible that the voice of God that we will hear will be the voice of our Savior speaking the very words to us that He spoke to John the Apostle long ago. "...Come up here, and I will show you things which must be after this" (Revelation 4:2).

C. At the sounding of the voice of the archangel (1 Thessalonians 4:16)

At about the same time believers would hear the ringing shout of the archangel. The book of Jude in verse 9 leaves no doubt about the name of this great angel who is the highest of the angels. His name is Michael. And what is it about which he will be shouting? I suspect that this great archangel, who will lead the good angels of heaven in the war against those angels who have rebelled with Satan during the tribulation (Revelation 12:7-9) may be shouting a warning to the hordes of the angels who today are obedient servants of Satan. If I am right, it is a warning for these fallen angels to stand back and not interfere with the events of the rapture of the church age saints.

D. At the blast of the trumpet of God (1 Thessalonians 4:16)

At approximately the same time our atmosphere will be rent by the great sound of the blast of God's trumpet. This sound will ring out, either as a part of the warning given to the fallen angels or as a call to the saints of this age as they are called forth from earth into the Lord's heavenly presence. On the other hand, this great trumpet blast may possibly be heard by all who have rejected Christ and may serve to indicate that the door of salvation in the Church now is closed. But we must never make the mistake of saying that no one could be saved after the Church is caught up to heaven. Indeed, the book of Revelation makes it clear that there will be multitudes who believe during the tribulation. However, these will not be part of the Bride of Christ, the Church. The destiny of multitudes of these who believe in the tribulation is to die at the hands of the world ruler of the tribulation (Revelation 7:9-12). And their heavenly destiny is different also. Those who are saved during the tribulation serve God in a different way than the Church, the Consort of Christ, will serve Him. (14) 

"...These are those who have come out of the great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and have made them white in the blood of the Lamb. (15) Therefore they will be before the throne of God, and they will serve Him day and night in His temple, and He who sits on the throne will dwell among them. (16) They will not hunger any more, neither will they thirst any more, neither will the sun light upon them nor any heat, (17) for the Lamb Who is in the midst of the throne will feed them, and He will lead them unto living fountains of waters, and God will wipe away all tears from their eyes" (Revelation 7:14-17).

E. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye (1 Corinthians 15:51-52)

We have seen in First Corinthians 15:51-52 that the Rapture will be a remarkably sudden event. After the resurrection of those in Jesus whose bodies sleep in death, "...We will all be changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be changed." There will be no time for those who have delayed responding to the gospel invitation to join the glad group of believers who suddenly are launched on their journey to the mansions which the Savior has prepared for us. The entire event including the resurrection of departed believers and the transformation of living believers will take place in the time that it takes a beam of light to glance off of the eyeball.


F. At Christ's return with the dead in Christ (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)
 
It was concern on the part of the Thessalonians, apparently conveyed to Paul, either by a letter or by a personal messenger, that led the Divine Author to direct Paul to give that church further information about believers who had died. Paul carefully explained in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 that, while the bodies of these believers were asleep, they actually were with the Lord. This is the truth that he had conveyed to the Corinthian church in his second epistle to them. Earlier in the chapter he has made it plain that the believer who dies should expect immediately to be clothed upon with a body in heaven. He has contrasted the believer's life in his mortal body with the fact that, at death, the believer immediately would be with the Lord. "We are confident and willing rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord. Therefore we labor in order that, whether present [in one's body] or absent [from one's body in death], we may be accepted by Him" (2 Corinthians 5:8-9). And in 1 Thessalonians 4 Paul has made it clear that the home going of all believers will take place in that moment when Christ and the great host of believers whose spirits already are with the Lord will return from heaven so that they may take part in the rapture. Paul says in 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 that the return of Christ and of the departed spirits of believers begins that great event. 

"But I would not have you to remain ignorant, brothers, concerning those who are asleep so that you do not sorrow, even as others [the unsaved] who do not have any hope. For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with him those who sleep in Jesus."

G. After the resurrection of the dead in Christ (1 Thessalonians 4:16c)

Thus is clear that the rapture awaits the return of believers whose bodies sleep in Jesus. The rapture cannot begin until they are returned to earth from heaven to receive their resurrected bodies. Indeed, their resurrection will be the first stage of the rapture. And Paul immediately deals with this factor in 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17. (15)


"For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and who remain until the coming of the Lord [in the air before the tribulation] will not precede [i.e., go before, not prevent them. Actually the old Latin word prevenir actually did mean "to go before." The problem is that the English word "prevent," found in the KJV, which is derived from that has changed its meaning so completely that it is inadequate any more for conveying the information it once gave]. those who are asleep [i.e., who have died]. (16) For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first...." It is only then that believers who still are alive will be caught up. (17) "Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air: and so we will be forever with the Lord."

H. At the moment of our up-gathering-together (2 Thessalonians 2:1)

In Second Thessalonians 2:1 the Apostle introduces a new term to describe the assembling of the saints of the Church age and their abrupt departure for their heavenly home. In his first chapter Paul has been comforting the believers at Thessalonica concerning the dreadful trials through which they were passing. There were some believers who had concluded that already they were in the great tribulation. The first chapter of Second Thessalonians is written to quiet the hearts of these believers. It is written to remove their confusion concerning their fear that their persecutions and tribulations indicated that they already were in the great tribulation. He has made it plain that believers will not be involved in the righteous judgment of God when He would punish those that did not know Him. He describes the escape of believers from that tribulation in 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10). 

(6) "...It is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to those who trouble you; (7) and to you who are troubled, rest with us when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, (8) in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God and who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, (9) who will be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power when He will come to be glorified in His saints and to be admired in all them that believe...."

It is then that Paul introduces the new way of describing the means by which believers will escape the sufferings of the great tribulation. He continues in chapter two showing the difference between the judgment of the unbelievers at His coming from the departure of those who will be believers here on earth at the time that Christ delivers believers before that time of trouble. He says in 2 Thessalonians 2:l-2, 

(1) "Now we beseech you, brothers, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ [to earth, which clearly has been described in 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 above] and by our up-gathering-together unto Him, (2) that you should not be shaken in mind or be troubled, neither by spirit or by word neither by letter as if it had come from us, as [thinking] that the day of the Lord is at hand."

As we have seen, this glorious moment when we are caught up to be forever with the Lord is described by a new word in 2 Thessalonians 2:1. There the Greek word episunagooge is used and that carefully has been distinguished by Paul from the day in which Christ will suddenly appear on earth at the end of the tribulation in fiery judgment upon unbelievers. I prefer to translate this single Greek word as "up-gathering-together" and recognize that it refers to the rapture. I do not accept the application of Granville Sharp's rule to this first verse. That would indicate that "the [previously mentioned] coming of our Lord Jesus Christ...," His coming in fiery judgment, and the rapture are the same thing or at least occur at the same time. The view that insists on this interpretation of the timing of the rapture is called "the post-tribulation rapture." Instead, the following context shows that this was the very problem which the Thessalonians were facing. Chapter one clearly shows that they thought that the trials that they were facing indicated that they were entering that terrible time of trouble. Paul plainly tells that church that, instead of being troubled of heart and thinking that the day of the Lord was upon them, in reality they would be resting beyond the reach of the tribulation with which the day of the Lord is introduced. That is precisely why he says to that church,

"Now we beseech you, brothers, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ [to earth, in the early stages of the day of the Lord which clearly has been described in 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9 above] and by ourup gathering together [the rapture] unto Him, (2) that you should not be shaken in mind or be troubled, neither by spirit or by word neither by letter as if it had come from us, as [thinking] that the day of the Lord is at hand."
