Will Heaven Be Boring?

Most people seem to think that eternity in heaven consists of flying around and playing harps. It's hard to think of anything more boring than that. Fortunately, that idea of heaven has nothing whatever to do with reality.

Life in heaven will be infinitely more fascinating than life on earth. It will be...well, heaven!

The primary reason it won't be boring is that God is not boring. Anyone who could create the entire universe has to be the most interesting person one could imagine. He is the source of exhilaration, humor, sex, taste buds, art, music, math, science, everything that brings us joy and interest. We all have infinite questions about God. All those questions will be answered, and many more that haven't even entered our minds. Everyone has different interests, but as for me, the first thing I want to do is find out if classes are being held. I want to learn everything. I want to sit down with the patriarchs and apostles and ask them questions.

Another reason heaven won't be boring is because we ourselves will be far more interesting than we are now. We are the equivalent of a fetus before it is transformed into a mature person. We are stuck in a three-dimensional world right now. In heaven there will be more dimensions and we will have bodies equipped for that. Listen to Philippians 3:20-21:

"For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself."

Your friends in heaven will not be boring. Hebrews 12:22-23 says: "But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect..."

Everyone worth knowing will be there. Jesus himself, of course, will be the first and most amazing friend. Then all of your Christian relatives - you'll be able to get acquainted with all of your Christian ancestors who you've never met. Then all of your Christian friends will be there, along with all of the Old and New Testament saints, and all of the angels! Everything will be alive with meaning, significance and creativity. Everything will be true, sincere, right, just, perfect.

There will be unlimited opportunity to meet and fellowship with whoever you want. You will form new friendships with people throughout eternity, people in our own time and age that we haven't had the opportunity to meet. All of the great Christian theologians and philosophers will be there, people like Francis Schaeffer, Andrew Murray, Spurgeon, Tozer, C.S. Lewis, Martin Luther, Polycarp. The list could go on and on.

Your activities won't be boring. You will become the 'you' God created you for, fulfilling dreams you haven't even thought of yet, always learning new skills, never experiencing wear, toil, fatigue or illness. We will experience the fullest expression of our deepest desires, serving the Most High throughout the universe.

Heaven is the place you've always longed for. Human beings have a deep desire and longing for "something" they can't express. This is why people who achieve earthly riches or fame are never satisfied when they 'arrive,' but ask, "Is that all there is?" The things of earth can never fully satisfy. Our souls and spirits point us toward eternal life. Nothing on earth can satisfy this yearning. We were created for another world. Romans 8:22-23 says:

"For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. Not only that, but we also who have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body."

God has set eternity in the heart of man, and what he sets in the heart he will fulfill and bring about.

Make sure you have your ticket.
