The Israeli defense establishment this week decided to begin actively recruiting local Christians into the Israeli army.
The move comes after years of encouragement by the Nazareth-based
Israeli Christian Recruitment Forum for young Arabic-speaking Christians
to voluntarily join the IDF so as to better integrate into Israeli
society.
Israel Today has repeatedly reported on the
activities of the forum, whose leaders have long insisted that local
Christians can only expect equal opportunity when they decided to take
on equal responsibility.
The decision to send official recruitment letters to young Christians
is expected to significantly boost the number of Christian soldiers in
the IDF. Though the recruitment letters will look the same as those sent
to young Israeli Jews, service in the IDF will remain voluntary for
Christians.
Israel Today sought out the reaction of the
spokesman for the Israeli Christians Recruitment Forum, Maj. (ret.)
Shadi Khalloul. This is what he had to say:
"The Israeli Christian Recruitment Forum welcomes this brave
decision by the defense minister and the IDF chief of staff. Though the
(recruitment) orders are voluntary, they demonstrate the seriousness and
firm desire of the state to incorporate and promote the Christian
population.
"This is a historic decision and the start of a new chapter, a
chapter of hope between Jews and Christians in the State of Israel. It
will allow young people from the Christian community to more seamlessly
integrate into Israeli society and to more easily climb the ladder of
progress in both military and civilian life.
"The Christian community is an important strategic asset for
Israel and its security. Christians are one of the best educated
communities in the country, meaning our young people can make a
significant contribution both to the IDF and the state.
"We believe the IDF is a central component of Israeli society
that can bring the various populations together so that in unity we can
build a better future for everyone, while also ensuring the security of
our community and the democratic Jewish state. [Army service] is an
important step toward equal opportunity. [All must share] the rights and
duties.
“The time has come for Christians to take it upon themselves to
strengthen their position alongside the Jews. We see what is happening
[to Christians] in the Arab countries. They lived the lie of unity [with
the Muslims] and ignored the impending danger until it was too late.
Conscription to the IDF is a small part of strengthening a community
that seeks to live in peace and security with everyone. It seems that is
the only way defend against the broad array of enemies.”
My understanding of the timing is slightly different, but that doesn't matter He paints a glorious picture, and the hint of a picture below is the first I've ever seen that was close to what I imagine Christ's posture to be when He returns. Dr. Chambers is a wordsmith - so inspiring - enjoy! CMR
Can you imagine a vision more
wonderful than to see a multitude of the greatest saints of all the ages
gathered together and worshiping around God’s majestic throne?
Their attention
in chapter five is the praise and honor they are giving to the Lamb of
God because He was worthy to take the sealed book out of His Father’s
hand. The Father’s throne is before them and the Seven Sealed Book is in
the Son’s possession. Shortly He will begin the process of opening the
seals.
But first the great “Lamb of God” must receive the honor due His name and victory. “And
he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon
the throne. And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and
twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them
harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.
And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and
to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to
God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and
nation.” (Revelation 5:7-9) This song will be the highest praise that has ever been sung by the redeemed saints of God.
When you view the Son of God now called by His redemptive title, “The Lamb of God,” there
will be no limits to the Hallelujah that springs from the lips of the
redeemed. Angels must be silent while these saints with redeemed bodies
show the glory of the New Life they have inherited. There will not be a
sour note that arises from these lips of perfection. Shouts and
acclamation will know no end for the hours this song must proceed.
You must see the “golden vials” of prayers that they have brought with them to this celebration.
Every Holy Ghost prayer that a saint of God has ever offered will be
present in these heavenly vials. We may think our prayers are forgotten
but the Father and the Son know every prayer we have offered, often in
great stress and with a heart rending burden. But know they have
triumphed as we know they will and we watch as they are filled with the
perfume of the Divine and waft their way up to the highest praise. Great
is our God, saints, and our glory is awaiting His finishing hours.
This
is the action of His multitude of saints that have triumphed over the
world, the devil, and their own flesh to be ready for His rewards. They do not forget in this song that they will soon possess the earth and reign with Him. “And
hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the
earth. And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about
the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten
thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; Saying with a
loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and
riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.
And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the
earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I
saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that
sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. And the
four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and
worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.” (Revelation 5:10-14) We should live every day of our Christian life with this scene in our hearts.
Woe to the man or woman that rejects the literal futuristic vision that God our Father gave to the Apostle John.
He saw one great scene after another, each, so perfectly visible that
he could paint a picture with words. As the future section of this
Masterpiece opened before the Revelator, he saw the Father on His
Throne. In the first verse of this Book, the Holy Spirit said, “The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto Him…” (Revelation 1:1)
The Father gave this vision to His Son and the Son gave it to the
Apostle John. I’m saying to all that read and warning you, “Woe to the
person that would dare call the Father‘s Revelation to His Son anything
less than literal and glorious.” The Father is the author of this,
“Masterpiece and I tremble before this Infallible truth”.
The future sections starts in Chapter Four and here is how the drama opened: “After
this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first
voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which
said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be
hereafter. And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne
was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne. And he that sat was to
look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: and there was a rainbow
round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald.” (Revelation
4:1-3) This vision of God the Father on His Throne is majestic
beyond words or human description.
The excellency of jewels of the
rarest quality is employed by John to give us a glimpse into this glory.
John did not see the face of God because he could not live with a full
view of such Divinity. The splendor of this scene leaves us with
unfailing reverence for our Creator and His future plans. The Father was
preparing John to understand a perfectly designed ending of redemption.
Everything from this point had to be given to the Church so we would
never despair for the future.
The great Jehovah God is seated on His throne in the celestial heavens and is fully prepared for the heavenly court.
Over six thousand years have passed since a serpent possessed by
Lucifer walked into the garden and deceived God’s perfect couple, Adam
and Eve. From the venom of lies in the garden, sin has touched every
offspring of Adam. The upheaval of the earth by the Noahic flood left
its scars on a sin-cursed earth. There is not one element of the created
world unspoiled by the flood of evil, and it’s now time for redemption.
The celestial city of Jerusalem, now in heaven, and its inhabitants are
the only untouched geography in the cosmos, and the court will be held
in its temple. David must have had a slight view of this seven-year
session. “Great is the LORD, and
greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his
holiness. Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth is mount
Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King. God is
known in her palaces for a refuge.” (Psalms 48:1-3)
I’m reminded of the words of Apostle Paul when he sought to excite us of God’s love for us: “But
as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have
entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for
them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit:
for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For
what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in
him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.”
(I Corinthians 2:9-11)
We know this drama before John had to be seen as future because the saints are here gathered around the throne of God.
They are seated on lesser thrones than the Father’s but in positions of
heavenly authority. To add to their authority is the description of
them, not as saints, but Elders. Look at the perfect wording.
“And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the
seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment;
and they had on their heads crowns of gold”. (Revelation 4:4)
Understand that these twenty four elders cannot be limited in number but rather seen as the church triumphant.
The First Testament church is always described with the term “The
Twelve Tribes,” or “The Twelve Patriarchs”. The New Testament Church is
seen as “The Twelve Apostles, or Disciples” of our Jesus Christ.
Together, the twenty-four elders are the Raptured Saints prepared for
their role in every event from the Rapture until they inherit the city
of New Jerusalem. The city will reflect the same twenty Four elders with
the Apostles name on the twelve foundations and the twelve Tribes of
Israel on the twelve Gates of Pearl leading into the city. Everything
about this scene of our Father on His Throne is future and cannot be
imagined in the present church world. Listen and look as John describes
what he saw: “And out of the
throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were
seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven
Spirits of God. And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto
crystal: and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne,
were four beasts full of eyes before and behind.” (Revelation 4:5-6)
Reading the details of this picture before John is awesome and designed to fill us with the fear of God.
Not a fear of dread but the emotion of sweet reverence that causes us
to want to be there. Revelation was never meant to be scary or
intimidating. Our Father is Sovereign and Omnipotent, but tender and
merciful. His longing for us is far greater than we are capable of
longing for Him.
The most powerful subject in Holy Scripture is, “YE MUST BE BORN AGAIN”.
Yet it is so reduced in today’s Church that the majority of Church
members do not know the transformation that occurs. If a person is “BORN
AGAIN” they are “New Creatures In Christ”. Please take time to listen
to the Sermons I am preaching on this subject. “For
after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it
pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.”
(I Corinthians 1:21) God’s plan for saving souls is the preaching of the Gospel and there is no backup plan.

Why? Because he is failing miserably, time after time, in his plans. His best days were in the hundreds of years of planning when no immediate results were expected. It was just a game plan. Those were the exciting times - anticipating winning.
But it has not turned out that way. He has had one defeat after another.
He was expecting to begin his rule on earth around the year 2000. That is almost fifteen years ago, and nothing has turned out according to plan. His arrogance didn't allow him to consider who is really in control: God Almighty!
God has His own plan - the Master Plan - and He has not revealed it to Satan. That may very well be the reason He hasn't revealed more of the details to us; Satan reads the Bible, too. This 15-year delay has cost Satan dearly in the expectations of his followers and recruits. They have become absolutely demoralized, exhausted, and many already believe he is a loser. Many of his earthly would-be followers have jumped ship. I believe some may have even come over to God's side. And a great number see right through Satan's plan. They now realize it is the plan of fallen angels and demons rather than the "ET's." Pray that these people will act to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Satan had expected to have brought total ruin to the United States by now. God has thwarted those plans and has protected us in this country. In spite of the vileness and corruption ot the society and culture, God has protected His own people. He remembers that the U.S. has taken the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the entire world over the past 250 years, and we are still doing that. His hand of protection has not been lifted as of today.
I have personally watched the plans of Satan, time after time, being thwarted as I followed his minions and their plans. The constant promises, dates, etc., have made them absolutely without credibility in the eyes of many. People simply do not believe what they say any more.
How could he have failed so completely? I believe it is because he under-estimated the influence of the Gospel impact on so many millions of lives on earth. In all the previous times he and his people have started up their program to rule the world they met with a good success rate. The majority of the world was pagan in all past ages.
Until ... the death and resurrection victory of Jesus Christ. THAT changed everything. Satan's entire plan was dead at that point. Christ got the victory over death, and the gift of eternal life was bestowed on His followers. It has changed the world, and the plans of the Evil One, who will continue to have failure after failure until he is thrown into the pit with those who follow him.
Satan/Lucifer will continue to have defeat after defeat as he attempts to rule the world over the next seven or so years. He will never taste victory. Because he is not the victor.
Jesus Christ is the victor and will rule as King of Kings and Lord of Lords very soon. This was in the mind of God before the foundations of the world!
Be on the winning side. Time is almost up. The moment you sense Christ knocking on your heart's door, repent and ask Jesus to come into your heart, to be Lord of your life. You can join the winners and attain eternal life. Choose life.

A man has been crushed to death after a giant crucifix dedicated to Pope
John Paul II collapsed, just days before a historic Papal canonisation
in Rome.
The 30-metre-high (98ft) wooden and concrete cross fell during a
ceremony in the Italian Alpine village of Cevo, near Brescia. Another
man was taken to hospital.
The structure was dedicated to John Paul II on his visit to the region in 1998.
In a strange co-incidence, the 21-year-old man named as Marco Gusmini
by local media, was reported to live in a street named after Pope John
XXIII – who will also be canonised in the ceremony on Sunday, Italian
media has reported.
The two giants of Roman Catholicism in the 20th century will become
saints on Sunday at a twin canonisation, an event unprecedented in the
2,000-year history of the church.

Matthew Vines professes to be a 'gay Christian.'For many years now, publishers have been releasing books that claim
the Bible does not oppose committed homosexual relationships. That is
nothing new. But it is a sad and shameful day when a major Christian
publisher releases such a book and claims that it is a solid evangelical
publication. This is abhorrent, disgraceful and terribly misleading.
And it needs to be addressed and exposed. But first, the background to the story.
In 2012, a young man named Matthew Vines, who professes to be a “gay Christian,” released a video
of his talk about the Bible and homosexuality, and it quickly went
viral. His demeanor was engaging and his appeal to the Scriptures very
serious, but for those who know the Word well, there was nothing in the
least bit persuasive in his presentation. In fact, it underscored just
how impossible it is to use the Bible to justify any form of homosexual
acts or to sanctify intimate homosexual relationships.
The
impossibility of Matthew’s position was further emphasized when my
colleague, the well-known apologist James White, put out a series of YouTube videos
that thoroughly rebutted Vines’ video. And both White and I have
offered to debate Matthew and any colleague he would choose, but to
date, there has been no response, although we’re still hoping that a
debate (or a series of debates) will take place.
But
here is the disturbing news. The book is being published by Convergent
Books, which is part of a publishing conglomerate that includes the
much-respected evangelical publishing group WaterBrook Multnomah (also
sharing some of the same staff). And the chief executive of the company,
Stephen W. Cobb, is vigorously defending
his choice to publish the book. In fact, he is making an extraordinary
effort to publicize it and claiming that it is thoroughly evangelical.
Have
we totally lost our bearings as the people of God? Are we now debating
the undebatable and trying to sanction the unsanctionable?
The
WaterBrook Multnomah group publishes books by authors like John Piper,
Chuck Swindoll, Ravi Zacharias, David Jeremiah, Randy Alcorn, David
Platt and Bill Gothard, and now its sister publisher is releasing a
purported evangelical book defending homosexuality? (This is not being
written on April 1 as some kind of April Fool’s joke. I am being dead
serious.)
Responding to an investigative piece
written by Christian attorney Matt Barber, Cobb explains that his
company is publishing the book “because [they] believe it offers a
thoughtful examination of Scripture on the topic of same-sex
relationships from a bold, young, evangelical writer whose first calling
is to promote a civil, loving, and biblically based conversation on the
subject.”
What?
Certainly, the tone of the book is meant to
be civil, and it does attempt to interact with the Scriptures,
although, to emphasize this again, you can no more use the Bible to
legitimize homosexual relationships than you can use it to legitimize
adultery. But to describe the author as “a bold, young, evangelical
writer” is to make the word evangelical utterly meaningless.
It
would be like speaking of a fine, conservative Catholic author whose
new book questioned the office of the pope, or of an excellent, Orthodox
Jewish author whose latest volume explained how pork was kosher. It is
just as laughable (or, really, lamentable) to speak of “a bold, young,
evangelical writer” whose book attempts to make a biblical case for
same-sex relationships. Talk about turning truth upside down.
To be sure, I personally own a large number of books written by professing “gay Christians,” including The Queer Bible Commentary and Holy Homosexuals,
so I’m familiar with the arguments. And I’ve interacted face to face
with professing “gay Christians,” most of whom seemed extremely sincere.
In
fact, in my own book, I do my best to introduce readers to the very
real, personal struggles experienced by people with same-sex attractions
who want to follow Jesus, and it is something that has driven me to my
knees in prayer, often with real brokenness and even tears of
intercession for them.
The travesty here is for Cobb, the head of
both WaterBrook Multnomah and Convergent (an imprint for “less
traditional Christians,” which is quite an understatement), to choose to
publish this book, then to defend that choice, then to present Matthew
Vines as an evangelical, and then to go all out with a publicity
campaign to promote the book. (Cobb writes, “We have extensive marketing
and publicity campaigns in place, with which we hope to reach the
widest possible readership.”)
As I note in my book,
there are “no new textual, archeological, sociological,
anthropological, or philological discoveries [that] have been made in
the last fifty years that would cause us to read any of these biblical
texts differently. Put another way, it is not that we have gained some
new insights into what the biblical text means based on the study of the
Hebrew and Greek texts. Instead, people’s interaction with the LGBT
community has caused them to understand the biblical text differently.”
The
point is that nothing has changed in terms of what Scripture teaches,
which is why almost no one through the centuries has thought to use the
Bible to sanction homosexual relationships—that is, until our day, and
this is simply the fruit of the sexual revolution of the 1960s, not the
fruit of dramatic new insights that would cause us to turn the Bible on
its head.
And that’s why there are fine Christians today who still
struggle with same-sex attractions but who renounce them as contrary to
God’s plan and who live holy, separated lives, enjoying a full and
robust relationship with the Lord without homosexual activities and
same-sex romantic connections.
In short, those who want to revise
biblical sexuality and morality have moved away from the Word of God,
and if they have any sense of integrity, they need to renounce their
claim to be evangelicals—and that includes Cobb, if he personally claims
to be one—and say, “We are liberal Christians who no longer hold to the
authority of Scripture, because of which we embrace homosexual
relationships.”
In refusing to do so, they have muddied the waters
of the faith, brought reproach on the gospel, further confused a very
lost society, and become propagators of deception in the church. And
they will answer to God for all this one day.
As things stand now,
the same publishing conglomerate that released books by an evangelical
author like Joshua Harris with titles and subtitles like I Kissed Dating Goodbye and Sexual Purity in a Lust-Saturated World
is releasing a book championing the idea that God blesses two men (or
women) having sex with each other as long as they are committed.

It calls itself a citizens' tribunal, which normally sounds like a great thing, and I even agree that exposing the vile and corrupt creatures at the Vatican and the Crown are well worth doing. The thing to understand is that behind this group is Satan and his minions, which always has plenty of church heirarchy included. In fact, he has been the power behind the Roman Catholic Church and the British Crown for centuries. They have served him well, but now he wants to personally take them over, so they must come down to make room for his #1 and #2 apostles of evil.
This the Beast's shill, part of the NWO, taking its first shot at the whore that rode in on it (Mystery Babylon, Rome, part of the harlot church). It has all started very quietly and under the radar screen of almost everyone, because the mass media owned by the NWO will never report it until forced - and that day will be coming. Why would the Beast do this, destroy Rome? Because it plans to install the One World Antichrist Church in the Vatican itself. This new 'church' will also include most Protestant so-called churches, an effort that is already well underway through the 'New Evangelization" between Rome and the mega Protestant churches. It will be a charismatic church by necessity, because the false Christ needs to be able to enter the minds of people in order to give them an unforgettable experience which will facilitate their conversion to Lucifer.
I would like to explain the 'Divide and Conquer' aspect of all of this, but I think the above is enough to absorb for now. The plot gets a little complicated. It will suffice to say that the old Rome (political and religious) are being betrayed, and they must be replaced by the new players.
Expect to see a major shakeup in the RCC; in fact, it is well underway behind the scenes. It will separate the true Christians (the 'few who enter the gate') from those who will embrace anything that feels good. This has also been happening in the Protestant churches. The two are soon to come together as Lucifer's own church. Watching the high tech canonization of the two deceased (?) popes will have me glued to my normally silent TV this weekend. and thereby repudiated its covenanted requirement of duty to uphold the
honor of Heaven and Earth, and the life and dignity of mankind, the
Church of Rome has nullified its basis for existence and brought upon
itself the status of a renegade transnational criminal organization in
the eyes of God and man, and under the laws of both heaven and earth.
The ultimate authority of God as expressed in De Jure common law
courts of judgment and in congregations of just, truthful men and women
does therefore nullify the existence of the Church of Rome, the alleged
“Apostolic Succession”, and its so-called “Canon Law”.
Therefore, as of this day, all such law, statutes, and all church
offices and officials are declared to be forever abolished and
possessing no effect or binding authority in heaven or on earth.
All Church of Rome officials and agents, commencing with Jorge
Bergoglio, so-called Pontiff of the Church of Rome, every Cardinal of
the Roman Curia, the heads of the Vatican Bank and Adolfo Pachon, chief
“Superior” of the Jesuit Order, are hereby ordered to immediately stand
down from and relinquish their offices.
The wealth, property and movable assets of the Church of Rome are
hereby forfeited and declared to be under the common ownership of the
People of the world, and may be peacefully seized and occupied by them.
Every member, employee and adherent of the Roman Catholic Church is
hereby released from all of their vows, allegiance and obligations to
the Church of Rome, and are freed to gather and worship in whatever
congregational form that God and their conscience compels, separate from
the disestablished Roman church.
The sheriffs and peace officers of lawful common law courts, assisted
by the free people of the world, are henceforth authorized and
encouraged to enact and enforce this Annulment and Emancipation
Proclamation wherever possible, under the supreme and sovereign
authority of God and the Law of Nations.
The people of God who have been lost and held in bondage within the
spiritual captivity of the false church of Rome are now free to assemble
in covenanted congregations which stand solely under the law of God and
recognizing no other legitimate authority, for the establishment of
God’s kingdom on earth.
The long night of spiritual tyranny and Vatican crime is over. Let
the free people of the Earth and all true servants of God and Christ
cleanse their lands of the Lie and the Murder formerly enthroned in
Rome.

A Late Lenten Meditation on the Reality of Spiritual Warfare
Every ancient prayer manual and guide to
spirituality until about fifty years ago had at least one large section
devoted to what was known as Pugna Spiritualis (spiritual
battle or spiritual warfare). In more recent decades, many spiritual
books have downplayed or completely deleted references to spiritual
battle or spiritual warfare.
Sadly, many modern approaches to faith, religion, and spirituality prefer to emphasize exclusively consoling themes
rooted in self-esteem, affirmation, etc. To be sure, the authentic
faith can and does offer great consolation, but the truest and deepest
consolation often comes after one has persevered along the
sometimes-difficult path, along the “narrow way” of the cross.
But too many today, in the name
of affirmation and pseudo-self-esteem are ready to excuse, and even
affirm grave moral disorders, rather than fight them. Grace and
mercy are preached, but without reference to the repentance that opens
the door to these gifts. Both the possibility of Hell and any
consequences of sin, are absent from many modern conceptions of faith
and religious practice.
Some years ago, I was approached by a rather angry woman
who, having heard my sermon on the seriousness of certain sins (which
were in the readings of the day), expressed great indignation that I
would preach on such topics. She said, “I come to church to be consoled
and have my spirits lifted, not to hear old-fashioned warnings about
judgment and sins.” She felt quite a “righteous indignation,” and was
most certain that I had transgressed a fundamental norm, namely, that
religion exists to console, and that any challenge to one’s moral
stance, (except perhaps caring for the poor), is intolerant and way out
of line.
Indeed, many today have this kind of attitude: that it is their birthright not to be troubled or vexed in any way
by something people might say, especially a preacher who claims to
represent God! The “God they worship” would never trouble them. They
will have Jesus for their consoler and best friend, but not their Lord,
and certainly not their judge. And never mind the literally thousands of
verses from Scripture in which Jesus himself speaks sternly and warns
of sin, death, judgment, and Hell. They will have none of it, and are
certain that “the Jesus they know,” would never raise his voice at them
or challenge them even for a moment. Never mind that the real Jesus says
to take up our cross and follow him.
With spiritual battle having been removed from many people’s spiritual landscape,
the idea that the Lord would summon us to battle, or ask us to choose
sides, seems strangely foreign, intolerant, and uncompassionate.
Even more dangerous,
these modern conceptions not only distort Jesus, but they downplay the
presence and influence of Satan. This is a very, very bad idea. Even if
we cease fighting against Satan, he will never ceases his sometimes very
subtle attacks on us.
Jesus called consistently for prayerful, sober vigilance
against the powers of evil and sin. Like it or not, we are in a battle.
Either we will soberly and vigilantly undertake the battle, or we will
be conquered and led off like sheep to the slaughter.
Despite what modern spiritual approaches would like to eliminate, Christianity has been a militant religion since its inception.
Jesus was exposed to every kind of danger from the beginning. Herod
sought his life; Satan tried to tempt him in the desert; many enemies
plotted on all sides as he worked his public ministry, misrepresenting
him, levying false charges, and conspiring to sentence him to death, and
eventually even succeeding though only for a moment.
And as for Jesus, so also for his mystical Body the Church: Saul, Saul why do you persecute me!?
(Acts 9:4) Jesus warns us that the world would hate us (Luke 21:17;
John 15:20); that in this world we would have tribulation (Jn 16:33),
and that we should watch and pray lest we give way to temptation (Matt
26:41). He summons us to persevere to the end if we would be saved (Mk
13:13). Jesus rather vividly described the kind of struggle with which
we live when he said From the time of John the Baptist until now, the Kingdom of Heaven has suffered violence, and men of violence take it by force
(Matthew 11:12). Indeed, no Christian until the time that Jesus
returns, can consider himself on leave or dismissed from this great
spiritual battle, from this great drama that we exist in, this battle
between good and evil.
Popular theme or not, we do well to remember that we are in the midst of a great cosmic and spiritual battle.
And in that battle, we must be willing to choose sides and fight with
the Lord for the Kingdom of God. Either we will gather with him or we
will scatter. We are to fight for our own soul, and the souls of those
whom we love.
In the holy week that is about to unfold,
we are reminded once again of the great cosmic battle that the Lord
waged, and that is still being waged in our time. Though already
victorious, in his mystical Body the Church, the Lord in his faithful
members still suffers violence, rejection, and ridicule. It is also for
us to reclaim territory from the evil one, to take back what the devil
stole from us. We are to advance the glory of God’s Kingdom through the
fruits of great spiritual struggle, sacrifice, prayer, fasting,
preaching, and an extensive missionary campaign to which the Lord has
summoned and commissioned us.
The battle is on; the struggle is engaged! To spiritual arms one and all! Fight the good fight for the Lord.
Still not convinced we are at war?
Let the Lord pull back the veil just a bit and let you look at what’s
really going on. The final words of this article will not be mine; they
will be the Lord’s. Here is described the cosmic battle that is
responsible for most of the suffering and confusion you experience:
A great sign
appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under
her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant and
cried out in pain as she was about to give birth. Then another sign
appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten
horns and seven crowns on its heads. Its tail swept a third of the stars
out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front
of the woman who was about to give birth, so that it might devour her
child the moment he was born. She gave birth to a son, a male child, who
“will rule all the nations with an iron scepter.” And her child was
snatched up to God and to his throne. The woman fled into the wilderness
to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of
for 1,260 days. Then war broke out in heaven. Michael and his angels
fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back.
But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The
great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or
Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and
his angels with him. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say:“Now have
come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the
authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers who accuses
them before our God day and night,has been hurled down. They triumphed
over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony;
they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. Therefore
rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth
and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with
fury, because he knows that his time is short.” When the dragon saw that
he had been hurled to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given
birth to the male child. The woman was given the two wings of a great
eagle, so that she might fly to the place prepared for her in the
wilderness, where she would be taken care of for a time, times and half a
time, out of the serpent’s reach. Then from his mouth the serpent
spewed water like a river, to overtake the woman and sweep her away with
the torrent. But the earth helped the woman by opening its mouth and
swallowing the river that the dragon had spewed out of his mouth. Then
the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to wage war against the
rest of her offspring—those who keep God’s commands and hold fast their
testimony about Jesus. (Rev 12)
