Why Did He Die?
To turn away God's wrath and extend mercy to sinful man
"Whom God hath set forth [to be] a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God..." Romans 3:25
To pay the ransom - the required price - that makes redemption possible
"..for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood.." Rev. 5:9
To grant us a legal pardon from our sin
"... all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission." Hebrews 9:22
To reconcile us to God so that we can have a persnal relationship with Him
".. we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. 2 Cor 5:20
To justify us - a divine act whereby God declares the sinner to be legally innocent of sin
"But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him." Romans 5:8,9
To put us in a peaceful status with God
"And, having made peace through the blood of his cross.." Colossians 1:20
To give us the legal right to approach God and enter into a personal relationship with Him
"Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus" Hebrews 10:19
To cleanse us from all sin
"But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin..." 1 John 1:7
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
